Ravenswood is looking for a motivated and talented Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in designing to military standards, to be a member of Ravenswood’s growing Product Development Team based in Orlando, FL. This person will be responsible for designing, prototyping, testing, producing and documenting, custom devices and sensors for use in rugged field environments. 


Job Summary


Ravenswood provides government agencies and commercial clients with technology and services for collective training, test and evaluation, and policy analysis exercises. Our field-proven packages include high fidelity instrumentation, geo-locating sensors, augmented reality systems, and turnkey support services that are customized for each client.


The Mechanical Engineer will work within a collaborative team environment and take their ideas through all aspects of the engineering process; from concept to field test to final production. This person will report directly to the Director of Product Development and provide engineering support in research & development, product development, sustainment, and testing. The specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for designs, concepts, testing, and integration
  • Work with electrical and software engineers to integrate components like PCBs, sensors, and Electro-Optical assemblies (e.g. lasers, detectors) into larger assemblies to create complete products
  • Lead hands-on troubleshooting, assembly of test articles, and conducting acceptance test procedures (ATP) in lab and field environments.
  • Maintain lab integrity and machine shop equipment to include: 3D printers, laser printer, and other equipment
  • Derive and decompose testable requirements from source documents such as statements of work and performance specifications
  • Diagnose and repair complex systems
  • Take designs from prototype to operational products that can survive extreme environments
  • Support design for manufacturing and production, including creation of Manufacturing Build Package (MBP), or Technical Data Package (TDP) for Government contract CDRLs.
  • Generate engineering reports and briefing inputs as required for DoD programs
  • Provide lessons learned and recommendations for continual improvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace or other related Engineering fields
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • High-level proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD solid modeling and analysis tools
  • High-level proficiency designing to and testing against MIL-STD-810 and IP67 standards
  • Proven success with mounting and housing miniature sensitive components for field applications
  • Experience using/maintaining 3D printers/milling machine/laser printer and other machine shop equipment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at a time
  • Strong communication, technical writing and presentation skills
  • Flexible team-oriented attitude; able to adapt to changing requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • 10 years of related experience
  • Experience with mounting and housing miniature optical components for field applications
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Familiarity with MATLAB
  • Familiarity with military training systems, events, formats, and protocol
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Other Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. A plus if current clearance can be transferred
  • Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check
  • A drug screen will be required as part of the hiring process
  • Ability to travel required (typically one week every 2-3 months). Trips to include testing of developed products in operating environment and new client development/planning on location.
