Position Summary:
The Senior Electronics Design Engineer will be based out in Simi Valley, CA, and is responsible for leading the design and development of advanced wireless monitoring systems for healthcare, regulatory, and industrial applications. This role combines deep expertise in electronic hardware design, embedded firmware, and low-power system architecture to deliver reliable, high-performance sensor solutions.
The engineer will drive end-to-end product development, including multilayer PCB design using Altium, embedded firmware development on modern microcontroller platforms, and integration of environmental sensors. A key focus of the role is optimizing battery-powered devices through ultra-low-power design techniques and implementing robust wireless communication protocols such as BLE, LoRa, Wi-Fi, and cellular technologies.
Working cross-functionally, this position supports scalable cloud-connected solutions and ensures successful system validation, testing, and production readiness. The Senior Electronics Design Engineer also plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with industry standards and quality requirements while providing technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Functions:
- Altium CAD design
- Design, develop, and maintain low-power sensor modules for healthcare, regulatory and industrial monitoring applications.
- Implement embedded firmware on microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, Nordic nRF, Ambiq Apollo) using C, Zephyr RTOS, and other frameworks.
- Develop and optimize wireless communication protocols including BLE, LoRa, Wi-Fi, and cellular (LTE-M, NB-IoT).
- Perform power optimization for battery-operated devices, including hardware circuit design, firmware strategies, and energy harvesting techniques for ultra-low-power designs.
- Design multilayer printed circuit boards (6+ layers) with emphasis on signal integrity, EMC/EMI mitigation, and optimized power section management.
- Integrate environmental sensors (temperature, humidity, differential pressure, gas) and ensure accurate data acquisition.
- Conduct debugging, validation, and testing of hardware/software systems, including data analysis and signal processing algorithms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable cloud connectivity solutions using REST, MQTT, FastAPI, Azure/AWS.
- Provide technical documentation, support production, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, including ISO-26262 for V-model development processes and ISO-17025 for sensor calibration and testing.
Requirements
Essential Skills/Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in embedded systems development.
- At least 3 years of experience in wireless sensor network projects.
- Experience with microcontrollers (STM32, Nordic nRF, Ambiq Apollo) and embedded C (barebone) programming.
- Experience with wireless communication protocols (BLE, LoRa, Wi-Fi, Cellular).
- Experience with RTOS (Zephyr, FreeRTOS) and low-power system design.
- Experience with sensor integration (temperature, humidity, pressure, gas).
- Experience with PCB design (6+ layers) and use of industry-standard EDA tools such as Altium Designer and KiCad.
- Experience with Linux system programming, kernel modules, and custom device driver development.
- Experience with cloud-based data integration (MQTT, REST APIs, Azure/AWS).
- Knowledge of signal processing, FFT analysis, and data compression methods is preferred.
