About the Role

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Warehouse Operations Manager, the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all receiving and shipping activities across two shifts within a multi line, regulated warehouse environment. This role provides direct supervision and operational leadership to dock and receiving teams to ensure safe, efficient, and timely execution of inbound and outbound activities.

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor manages dock scheduling, coordinates shipments with carriers, and supports inventory movement and control processes to maintain continuous workflow across all lines of business. The role is accountable for shift‑level capacity planning related to labour and infrastructure, ensuring operational flow is balanced to meet service, productivity, and quality targets.

This position works closely with logistics, facilities, equipment, and pharmacy partners to resolve operational issues and support business priorities. The role also includes responsibility for people leadership activities, including recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, scheduling, coaching, and performance management, in support of a seven‑day operation. The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor plays a key role in reinforcing safety, quality, and compliance standards while driving consistent operational performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all receiving and shipping operations across two shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely execution of inbound and outbound activities across all lines of business.
  • Manage dock scheduling and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with carriers to maintain continuous workflow, address delays, and meet service commitments.
  • Provide direct leadership to Team Leads and operational staff, ensuring clear direction, accountability, and consistent execution of operational priorities.
  • Support inventory management activities, including purchase order validation, shipment verification, discrepancy resolution, and accurate system transactions.
  • Oversee replenishment, putaway, staging, quarantine, crossdock, and inventory flow processes to support fulfillment, transfers, and shipping requirements.
  • Manage the picking, preparation, and execution of intercompany transfers to national sites and pharmacy locations, including handling returns and shipment related escalations.
  • Utilize NAV Vision/Business Central, WMS platforms, and Microsoft Office tools to support operational execution, tracking, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Conduct capacity planning for labour and infrastructure, including staffing levels, shift coverage, dock flow, space utilization, and equipment availability.
  • Own shift KPIs for receiving and shipping operations, including throughput, backlog resolution, service levels, and timely closure of operational issues.
  • Make sound judgement and decision making authority to reprioritize work, reallocate labour, adjust dock flow, and resolve operational gaps to maintain service, quality, and safety outcomes.
  • Monitor key operational KPIs, implement corrective actions as needed, and escalate material risks with recommended solutions.
  • Act as the primary escalation point during assigned shifts for carrier issues, inventory discrepancies, system interruptions, and service impacts, ensuring timely resolution or structured handoff.
  • Ensure effective shifttoshift continuity by documenting outstanding issues, risks, and priorities and communicating clearly with incoming leadership.
  • Promote Health & Safety compliance by enforcing warehouse policies and procedures, and conducting safe work observations
  • Ensure SOPs, training materials, and operational documentation remain accurate, current, and consistently applied.
  • Support cross training initiatives to maintain operational flexibility, coverage, and resilience.
  • Coach, mentor, and performance manage employees, including attendance management, scheduling, conflict resolution, and corrective action where required and to collaborate with support teams when required.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of warehouse staff in support of a sevenday operation.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to resolve operational issues, maintain workflow continuity, and support technology adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support dock security, asset protection, and loss prevention practices to ensure inventory integrity and controlled access to warehouse areas.
  • Perform other operational duties as required.

 

Responsibilities Specific to Warehouse and Dex Staff are as follows:

·       Willingness to work for extended periods in cold environments (walk-in coolers) while handling and packaging pharmaceutical products.

·       Ability to maintain focus, attention to detail, and adherence to GMP or applicable regulatory guidelines, while working in temperature-controlled settings.

·       Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks in cooler conditions, including the use of appropriate PPE.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education

·       Post-secondary education in Business, Logistics, or Warehousing, with Lean Green Belt certification preferred; or 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

 

Experience

·       Minimum four (4) years of experience in a warehouse, distribution, or logistics environment, with direct involvement in receiving and shipping operations.

·       Minimum two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or lead role, providing day‑to‑day oversight of warehouse staff in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment, is preferred.

·       Strong people‑management experience with the ability to lead, coach, and develop dock and operations staff.

·       Highly organized and process‑driven, with the ability to prioritize, streamline workflows, and manage multiple responsibilities.

·       Proficient in NAV Vision/Business Central, WMS platforms, and Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

·       Skilled in conflict resolution and maintaining positive working relationships with stakeholders.

·       Demonstrated ability to support and lead change management initiatives within a fast‑paced operational environment.

·       Must have 2-5 years of experience operating or overseeing MHE (Material Handling Equipment).

 

Language Skills:

·       Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding documentation pertinent to job responsibilities.

·       Capable of effectively presenting information in both one-on-one and small group settings to employees within the organization.

 

Work Environment:

·       Must be flexible to work any shift to support 7‑day operations and evolving business needs.

·       Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and communicate any limitations or health concerns to leadership.

·       Comfortable working in an environment with potential exposure to chemicals used in warehouse operations.

·       Able to perform duties in a setting with moderate noise levels and varying warehouse conditions.

 

Physical Demands:

·       Regularly required to listen and speak.

·       Frequently need to stand, bend, walk, stoop, and sit.

·       Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

·       Familiarity with Good Manufacturing (GMP) or applicable Regulatory Guidelines, particularly regarding temperature-controlled storage and handling of pharmaceutical products (a must requirement for Warehouse and Dex employees).

·       Employees working in warehouse operations are required to wear and properly use all essential or required personal protective equipment (PPE) as outlined by their department leader and in accordance with the employer’s safety requirements. This obligation applies to current PPE requirements and any future revisions necessary to maintain compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
