Description of Position
The position of Director of Counseling Services in Student Life, serves as the administrator and team leader of Counseling Services in the Counseling Center at Northwest Nazarene University. The candidate should have primary competence in the field of mental health counseling/therapy. The position will include: personal counseling; supervision of Counseling Center counselors, counseling interns, practicum students, and LPCs pursuing clinical licensure; conducting training; provide group/department services as needed; developing materials appropriate to counseling functions; promoting the Counseling Center and counseling processes on campus; and participating in Student Life staff activities. This position reports to the VP of Student Life. This is a .83 FTE (40 hours a week), ten-month, exempt position.

Essential Functions

- Provides counseling to NNU undergraduate students through individual counseling.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical records following professional guidelines.
- Provides group/department support services as needed.
- Provides clinical supervision for any Counseling Center LPCs pursuing clinical licensure.
- Provides consultation services to counselors at the University Counseling Center, NNU staff and faculty as needed.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises graduate level practicum and intern students.
- Manages Counseling Services daily operations through ongoing communication with all Counseling Services staff and interns.
- Adheres to the ACA/NASW Code of Ethics and DOPL licensure requirements.
- Ensures Counseling Services compliance with legal and ethical requirements.
- Ability to use the DSM-5-TR to assess and diagnose mental health disorders.
- Collaborates with Student Life, Athletics, CASA, Campus Safety, Threat Assessment Team, Nighthawks Central, and other campus departments and individuals to support student mental health and support services.
- Works closely with AVP of Student Life in managing student situations.
- Assists with student leadership involvement, training, and support including leading Mental Health training at LEAD retreat.
- Coordinates and lead pivot meetings as needed to provide higher level of support services including following the return to campus policy for NNU undergraduate students.
- Collaborates with medical providers on and off campus, including the University Medical Clinic.
- Responds to mental health emergencies on campus as needed.
- Is comfortable discussing spiritual issues with students.
- Develops and delivers mental health training and materials for student and employee populations.
- Attends and participates in Student Life staff meetings, lead Counseling Services staff meetings.
- Ensures up-to-date referral list of current community resources.
- Provides referral information and consultation to students, parents, employees, and other NNU constituents.
- Provides policy development and management.
- Manages the Counseling Services budget.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s level education in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology, preferably from a CACREP program.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an LCPC/LCSW in the state of Idaho.
- Meets requirements to register as a supervisor with DOPL.
- Three (3) years of experience in mental health counseling, preferably in a college counseling center.
- Sufficient skills, knowledge, and training to perform essential functions of this position.
- Experienced with developmental processes affecting university students, including issues of addiction, abuse, depression, family crisis, anxiety, trauma, etc.
- Develop a therapeutic alliance with the student population, as well as cultivating the trust of the employee population for the purpose of referrals.
- Basic computer skills with knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- High motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, be able to multitask, problem-solve, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances.

Compensation
The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position.
