Step Into a High-Impact Women’s Health Role – WHNP or Certified Nurse Midwife Needed at Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility. Are you an experienced Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) ready for a role where your expertise directly changes lives? Eastern Shawnee Staffing Services, in partnership with the Indian Health Service (IHS), is seeking dedicated WHNPs and CNMs for a long-term contract assignment at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility. This position offers the chance to grow professionally while delivering essential women’s health services in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Position Overview
The WHNP or CNM will provide comprehensive women’s health services across the lifespan, including prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, and reproductive health care. CNMs may also provide labor and delivery management for appropriate-risk patients within scope.


Contract Details / Schedule
1099 Government Contractor position
Long-term contract up to 1 year with extension options
8–13 hour shifts depending on department needs
Day, night, and mid shifts available
Women’s health / OB-GYN experience required
2–3 years of clinical experience preferred
Experience in labor & delivery, prenatal, and postpartum care required
Critical Access / IHS facility setting
Previous locum tenens experience preferred
Active U.S. license accepted (any state or territory)

What You’ll Do
Provide comprehensive women’s health care including prenatal, postpartum, and gynecologic services
Conduct routine exams, screenings, and preventive care across the lifespan
Manage labor and delivery care (for CNMs), including low- to moderate-risk pregnancies
Diagnose and treat acute and chronic women’s health conditions
Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic testing
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams
Provide patient education on reproductive health, family planning, and wellness
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant EHR documentation
Follow all IHS policies, safety protocols, and clinical guidelines
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Deliver culturally competent care to diverse populations

Requirements

  • Strong clinical, diagnostic, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments

  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Must be a U.S. citizen residing primarily in the United States

Qualifications:

 Graduate of an accredited Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) program or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) program
Board Certified WHNP or CNM (required)
Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in women’s health, OB-GYN, prenatal, postpartum, or labor & delivery required
Active, unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory
Active DEA registration (if prescribing within scope)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)  Preferred
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for CNMs
Experience with Indian Health Service (IHS) or tribal healthcare systems preferred
Experience working in rural or underserved communities strongly preferred
Must be able to pass a federal background/security clearance
Proof of education (diploma or transcripts required)
