Assistant Store Manager 

Department: Hardware 

Job Status: Full Time 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Reports To: Store Manager 

Grade/Level: High School or Equivalent 

 

Position Overview 

The primary responsibility of the Merchandising ASM is to drive sales by focusing on customer service, promotions, special events, and sales. In essence, this person is responsible for key components of promotional planning and execution.  Your responsibilities include ensuring the store is well-organized, visually appealing, and fully stocked with high-quality merchandise to give our customers the best shopping experience possible. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Leadership 

  • Provide excellent representation of Kabelin Ace Hardware through fully embodying the company’s core values and what it means to be “The Helpful Place”. 
  • Lead by example and maintain approachability for associates and customers. 
  • Participate in store meetings. 
  • Drive store sales to meet and exceed the Plan. 
  • Prepare and strive for future career advancement. 
  • Observe, monitor, and coach associate performance on the sales floor. 
  • Possess in-depth product knowledge and familiarity with store layout and product locations. 

Merchandising 

  • Direct daily merchandising tasks and train associates in best practices. 
  • Coordinate merchandise resets throughout the store. 
  • Maintain store standards, including cleanliness, organization, and product presentation. 
  • Execute closeout management, item change management, and weekly price change labels. 
  • Review Ace’s monthly sign kit & execution guide, verifying in advance that all promotional materials have arrived and are event ready. 
  • Plan & execute store signage for each ad, sale, and promotion. This includes ensuring key items are in stock & all sale products are on the floor and properly priced. 
  • Execute and maintain End Caps and Power Aisle, ensuring they are set and well-stocked. 
  • Promote and execute store events, including grilling events, product demo days, customer workshops, round-up donations, seasonal changes, and more. 
  • Partner with marketing to create local content for our social media to engage customers and drive sales. 
  • Increase Ace Rewards participation and monitor customer survey results to improve service. 
  • Oversee store services (keys, propane, screens, locks, assembly, engraving, etc.).

Compensation 

  • $37k - $45k / year. 
  • The role requires 40 hours/week and ability to work every other weekend. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • High School or GED equivalent. 
  • Valid in-state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems. 
  • A commitment to service, excellence, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Ability to take leadership role in training and coaching team members on skills needed to positively impact sales.  
  • Ability to communicate with associates and customers. 
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail. 
  • Preferred but not required – Spanish verbal and written communication skills.
