About the Role

SUMMARY:   Responsible for coordinating all functions of the store receiving area. Duties include unloading freight, checking-in merchandise, accurately verifying quantities to bill of lading and/or invoices, accurately pricing merchandise and stocking shelves on the sales floor as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Helps ensure sales goals are obtained by welcoming customers and ensuring they have what they are looking for, while promoting better alternatives (up selling), sale items and other relevant products to assist them with their projects.
  • Cultivates customer’s good will and encourages repeat business.
  • Unloads merchandise from the freight container following company safety policies and procedures.  
  • Promptly receives, unpacks, and examines all goods against bills of lading, invoices, or other documents.  Accurately verifies the quantities, damages, or discrepancies of each shipment and notifies store management of variances. Submits all documents to the store office.
  • Ensures accurate pricing of merchandise before it goes to the selling floor.  Prints price labels/bin tags as needed.
  • Segregates merchandise by department and assists in the stocking of merchandise on the sales floor while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
  • Continually maintains the receiving warehouse area in an organized, clean, and safe manner per company policy.
  • Prepares “inter-store transfers”, “returns to vendor”, and “special orders” (i.e. customer orders, etc.) as needed.
  • Assists management in assuring that freight is completed within 48 hours.
  • Performs “zero counts” and does “pull downs” as needed.
  • Embrace the Company’s vision, mission, goals, objectives and core values 
  • Ensures adequate store stock is available to sell to customers by communicating inventory needs to store management in a timely manner.  
  • Assists with store management regarding the merchandise presentation to maximize sales and to best accommodate seasonal and promotional activities.
  • Follows all safety and security procedures. Reports potential problems or concerns immediately to management and completes required reports within 24 hours.
  • Properly uses and secures two way radios and head sets as assigned.
  • Follows company policies and procedures as described in BFS, Inc. Policies and Procedures Manual.

SAFETY & SECURITY

  • Work in a safe manner to protect yourself, your co-workers and others who may be affected by your actions.
  • Work together on exercising prevention methods to minimize injury or loss.  Suggest solutions to mitigate hazards.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains equipment and notifies management of repairs as needed.
  • Accurately prices and displays (i.e. bins, shelves, displays, etc.) merchandise.  
  • Assists store management in the annual preparation and taking of the store’s physical inventory.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties (i.e. up keeps a professional appearance of the store’s floors, fixtures, restrooms, employee lounge, etc.)  Performs general maintenance of the store’s premises (i.e. store entrance, parking lot, receiving, etc.)  
  • Promptly and accurately performs any other related duties as assigned by store management including performing related duties of Cashier and/or Sales Associate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Equipment/Tools Used:  Frequent use of various store equipment such as a forklift, hand truck and other miscellaneous equipment and hand tools (i.e. scissors, box cutters, stapler, computer, printers, calculator, telephone, two way radios, headsets etc.)

Work Hours:  Available flexible hours as required including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be available on freight delivery days.

 Work Environment:  Works under regular store conditions.  Frequent exposure to heat, dust, solvents, chemicals, paint, glue, etc. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Requires attention to detail, concentration and alertness.
  • Basic mathematical skills  (i.e. calculation of fractions, percentages, pricing, discounts, taxes, returns, charges, making change, taking inventory, ordering, verification of quantities, etc.)
  • Organizes work to complete assignments, maintains accuracy, and demonstrates customer service standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure, demonstrate effective decision-making, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Continually pushes, pulls, and/or lifts up to 60 lbs. of materials, including lifting and maneuvering up to 100 lbs. of merchandise using a hand truck.
  • Ability to become certified to operate a forklift, and operate as assigned.
  • Ability to stand for duration up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Frequent reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, squatting, crouching, climbing of ladder, grasping and squeezing.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and/or power tools (i.e. forklift, hand truck, and miscellaneous equipment, computer, calculator, etc.)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service, receiving, and/or retail experience is preferred.
  • General knowledge of computers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, management, customers and vendors using both verbal and written skills.   

Able to understand and follow instructions to complete assignments.
