MAINTENANCE MECHANIC BLDG/STR

The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Maintenance Mechanic Bldg.
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position that is based on a 40-hour work week.
This position is part of the (PEU) Public Employees Union collective bargaining agreement and will work at Public Services Building located at 1749 3rd Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33460.
Pay Rate: $21.8942- $27.3678

JOB SUMMARY:
Skilled work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of various types of automotive equipment, including mowers, grounds keeping equipment and small gasoline engines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repairs and overhauls variety of groundskeeping equipment, including vehicles.
- Performs major and minor motor repairs and replacement work; adjusts, cleans and replaces parts as needed. Evaluates condition of engine parts, solders leaks, straightens damage and bent parts, installs new parts, assembles and tests repaired equipment. Relines and adjusts brakes and replaces brake drums and other parts as needed.
- Performs minor welding and machine work incidental to completion of repair assignments.
- Prepares records and reports on work accomplished.
- Assists in the cemetery duties including burial preparation, ceremony and opening and closing of grave sites
- Assists the irrigation tech with maintenance and repair of irrigation system including control systems, supply lines and sprinkler heads
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the small engine repair trade.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to automotive and mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of and skill in the use, repair and maintenance of various types of shop tools.
- Some knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose common defects of motors and bodies of equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to follow automotive and small engine diagrams.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
HS/GED or vocational school education and experience in automotive and small engine equipment repair and maintenance.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Current valid Florida driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
