About the Role:

Join our Haematology Laboratory team at Canberra Health Services and take the next step in your scientific career in a dynamic tertiary hospital environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Scientist to work across the Haematology, Coagulation, and Transfusion sections, gaining broad exposure to both routine and complex diagnostic testing. You will be part of a collaborative pathology team where your work directly contributes to patient care, including supporting critical transfusion decisions and complex clinical cases.

In this role, you will perform a wide range of laboratory analyses under the supervision of Senior Scientists, including antibody screening and crossmatching in transfusion, as well as routine coagulation testing and result recording. You will also participate in external quality assurance programs and have opportunities to interface with clinical teams, contributing to the interpretation of laboratory results. Working in a high-acuity tertiary setting, you will be exposed to complex investigations that require a strong foundation in haematology and critical thinking.

This position offers excellent professional development opportunities, including weekly haematology education sessions, access to internal and external training, and exposure to specialised areas such as immunophenotyping and bone marrow transplant testing. You will be supported to grow your skills and knowledge in a structured and supportive learning environment.

We are seeking an individual who thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment, demonstrates strong communication skills, and can work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team. You will be adaptable, resilient, and committed to delivering high-quality results that support positive patient outcomes. The successful applicant will hold a relevant tertiary science qualification and ideally have experience working in a diagnostic laboratory.

This position operates on a rotating roster, including out-of-hours shifts, to support the 24/7 operation of the laboratory. In return, you will join a dedicated team where your contribution is valued, and where you can make a meaningful impact on patient care while advancing your professional career.

A merit pool may be created from this recruitment process and remain valid for 12 months. This pool may be used to fill both permanent and temporary positions across CHS.
