RESPONSIBILITIES

The Caretaker/Janitor is responsible for the daily upkeep and cleanliness of the apartment building. You will have to organize and prioritize each day in order to accomplish the daily required job duties (listed below). You will also be responsible for unit turn-overs and assisting with snow removal. Cleaning of 14 buildings and grounds in a Project Based Section 8 Community.

Specific Duties:

General Cleaning:

Cleaning is to be completed on a regular basis. The common areas of the buildings are to be kept neat and clean at all times. This includes, but is not limited to:

  •  Vacuum carpeting.
  •  Sweep, wash and mop tile and concrete floors
  •  Clean windows including tracks and screens
  •  Dust and wipe down baseboards, walls, railings, ledges and screens
  •  Spot clean walls
  •  Clean doors, including the window glass as needed
  •  Replace inoperable light bulbs and wash light fixtures
  •  Sweep, mop and wax laundry room floors
  •  Clean laundry rooms, including Washers & Dryers daily

Grounds:

  •  Keep grounds clean of debris and ensure all trash is in the dumpsters prior to pick-up
  •  Water lawn, flowers and shrubs as needed
  •  Monitor parking lot and advise Manager of parking violators
  •  Ensure the sidewalks, stairs and building entrances are free of snow and ice at all times, this would include light snowfalls (mopping, shoveling, sweeping)
  •  Apply ice melt to walkways, entrances and stairs as needed
  •  Clean dumpster areas as needed
  •  Monitor and report inoperable exterior lighting
  •  Monitor and report needed repairs at the development

Apartment Turnover Cleaning:

General:

  •  Remove items from vacated apartments
  •  Cleaning all appliances, mopping floors, vacuuming carpets
  •  All heat registers must be wiped down - be sure all pieces are attached
  •  Clean ceiling fan blades if there is one in the apartment
  •  Make sure all light bulbs are in good working order
  •  Check ceiling corners for cobwebs
  •  Dust breaker box, inside and out
  •  Make a list of any repairs, replacements that need to be done

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to act quickly, calmly, and professionally in emergency situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to do physical activities, such as bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing & pulling, and lift 50 lbs.

The Caretaker will work 40 hours per week. This position may require working other than regular scheduled hours as needed, including weekends.

Education:

  •  High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  •  Custodial/Janitorial/Cleaning: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:
