Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Professional Teaching Fellow (teaching-focused academic) to join our Business Communications Team and contribute to the delivery of our postgraduate professional programmes. The Business School attracts high-calibre students to its world-class undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, including 15-month master’s degrees with a strong emphasis on employability. Many of our students use English as an additional language.

The Business Communication Team (BCT), based within the Graduate School of Management (GSM), supports students to develop the professional communication and academic literacy skills needed to succeed in both their studies and future careers. As a Professional Teaching Fellow in the BCT, you will design and deliver embedded business communication and academic literacy support to a diverse postgraduate student cohort.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with discipline academics to embed the University’s graduate capabilities (Graduate Profiles - The University of Auckland)
  • Designing and delivering workshops, seminars and team teaching
  • Designing and delivering 1:1 and small group sessions
  • Providing feedback on written and oral assessments

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), fixed-term (36 months) position.

The salary range for this role is $105,791 - $128,065 per annum. Remuneration depends on experience and achievements, and will be aligned with our Academic Standards policy.

If you are committed to ensuring that students have an extraordinary learning experience, informed by relevant research and enhanced by appropriate learning technologies, this role will appeal. You will assist in the development of programme and course curricula, deliver research-informed teaching, and carry out administrative duties that support the successful achievement of these goals.

Some evening teaching may be required, as many students are balancing their studies alongside part-time or full-time employment.

To enhance our team, we are especially keen to hear from applicants with:

  • A postgraduate qualification related to English, language, or communication 
    disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Experience in corporate communication or industry experience
  • Teaching experience with both international and domestic tertiary students
  • Knowledge of numeracy, statistical analysis and quantitative research report writing skills
  • Experience and pedagogical knowledge of e-learning/hybrid delivery
  • Experience with Generative AI in an educational or professional context
