The Role

As the Director, Workforce AI & Automation, we are seeking an AI and automation leader to drive the design, development, and deployment of our workforce optimization engine. You will focus on translating our workforce strategy into scalable, production-grade systems by integrating our strategic platforms, automating decision workflows, and embedding AI into our core processes. As the leader of the team, you will be responsible for building and operationalizing solutions that identify workforce skill gaps, recommend actions (upskill, hire, or augment with contingent labor), and continuously improve through feedback and data.

You will be a hands-on expert who thrives at the intersection of data science, engineering, and product development—someone who can take concepts from ideation to production and ensure they deliver measurable business impact. You will partner closely with workforce strategy, HR leadership, and technical teams to ensure our AI-driven solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Kyndryl is a global, largely remote company, where you will join People and Workforce Analytics professionals and work closely with senior leadership, HR partners, and cross-functional technical teams. You will play a critical role in transforming our workforce analytics capabilities into automated, intelligent systems that operate at enterprise scale.

Your work will directly influence our enterprise strategy and operations and impact tens of thousands of employees. As the Director, Workforce AI and Automation you’ll be specifically responsible for:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, data scientists, and analysts focused on building AI-driven workforce systems.
  • Foster a fast-moving, execution-oriented, and collaborative team environment with a strong focus on delivery and impact.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and holding the team accountable for production outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Workforce Strategy leadership to align on priorities, roadmaps, and success metrics.

Technical Expertise:

  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines and automated workflows that integrate across HR, skills, and workforce planning platforms.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning systems, from development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and operationalize predictive and optimization models to support workforce planning and decision-making.
  • Establish best practices for MLOps, data quality, model governance, and system reliability.
  • Ensure systems are designed for scale, performance, and real-time or near real-time decision support where needed.

Product and System Development:

  • Translate workforce strategy and business requirements into robust, user-centric AI products and systems.
  • Define system architecture, inputs, outputs, and feedback loops for the labor optimization engine.
  • Build and manage a roadmap for automation and AI capabilities, prioritizing high-impact use cases.
  • Continuously improve systems by incorporating user feedback, performance metrics, and evolving business needs.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging AI capabilities, including generative AI, to enhance workforce insights and recommendations.

Strategic Planning:

  • Partner with Workforce Strategy and HR leadership to operationalize the long-term vision for AI-driven workforce management.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency across workforce planning and analytics.
  • Stay current with advancements in AI, machine learning, and automation technologies, and apply them to drive innovation.
  • Contribute to defining the future-state architecture and capabilities of Kyndryl’s workforce intelligence ecosystem.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate deeply with HR, operations, IT, and data teams to understand system requirements and ensure successful implementation.
  • Communicate complex system designs and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Drive adoption of AI-powered tools and systems by engaging stakeholders and demonstrating business value.
  • Partner with senior leadership to translate system capabilities into strategic advantages for the organization.
