About the Role

MODERN MATURITY CENTER

COOK (PT) 

Monday-Friday 4:00 am to 11:00 am (start times may vary)

(Paid vacation and sick time)


 

SUMMARY

As a Cook at Modern Maturity Center, your primary responsibility will be preparing and cooking a variety of dishes to the highest standards.  You will work closely with the Head Cook and the kitchen team to ensure all meals are prepared and served on time.  Your attention to detail and ability to follow recipes will be crucial in maintaining the quality and consistency of our menu.   Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work area and adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reads menu and recipes to prepare food; estimates food requirements and procures food from storage.
  • Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles
  • Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe to prepare soups, salads, gravies, desserts, sauces, and casseroles
  • Bakes, roasts, broils, and steams meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods
  • Adds seasoning to foods during mixing or cooking
  • Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, and taking temperature
  • Carves meats, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies and sauces, and garnishes servings to fill orders
  • Cuts, trims, and bones meat before cooking
  • Adheres to health, sanitary and safety regulations
  • Ensures maintenance of a clean and sanitary kitchen
  • Maintain food inventories as needed
  • Ensures that serving lines have adequate supplies of food
  • Receives and stores food and supplies

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a high-volume kitchen
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Use equipment and materials properly
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills                                             

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

  • ServSafe certification preferred but not required.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
