About the Role

SUMMARY

Assists other slitter personnel that operates slitting equipment, and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials, pallets or containers to be processed. Opens containers. Removes samples of materials, tags or labels with identifying information.

Measures samples for conformity with customer specifications. Collects statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of materials to be processed.

Loads and unloads materials onto or form pallets, racks by hand or with material handling equipment. Assembles pallets to transport products such as coils or metal strips.

Assists setup/machine technicians in loading and unloading of machine and stacks material by raising and lowering hoist. Stacks strapped and banded coils on pallet. Bands material to pallet to secure material for shipment.

Observes slitting and rewinding operation and examines cut strips for flatness, holes, burrs on edges, and surface defects. Proper documentation through PLEX

Counts and records number of banded pallets. Counts, weighs, and records number and heat numbers of units of materials moved or handled on daily shop order. Attaches identifying tag or labels to materials or marks information on coils or box containers. Marks size of article, customer’s name, order number, address, or other identifying data on visible portion of pallet and/or coil stack and/or shipping ticket.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Occasionally directs one employee in machine technician classification. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILTIY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
