Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw material, subcontract services, and manufactured subassemblies for the United States Department of Defense while adhering to the terms and conditions of the company’s contract(s). Buyer also provides customer service support and project management support to internal and external stakeholders. Experience estimating, negotiating, expediting, and rating supplier performance are essential to this position.

  • Selects supplier and obtains pricing and availability.
  • Ability to negotiate price as well as terms and conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with contract flow down requirements (FARS, DFARS, and customer).
  • Applies strict quality management system specifics as part of a thorough supplier management and selection process.
  • Provides reporting for departmental KPIs as set by the Purchasing Manager including on time delivery, order accuracy, contractual and regulatory compliance, and other metrics as assigned.
  • Recommends addition of new suppliers based on company need and at the direction of the Purchasing Manager.
  • Performs supplier audits and produces balanced scorecard reports at the direction of the Purchasing Manager
  • Creates purchase orders.
  • Places orders as required utilizing a master planning schedule and follows up to insure on time delivery throughout the purchasing cycle.
  • Follows detailed instructions provided on engineering drawings (basic ability to read blueprints).
  • Expedites orders
  • Uses ERP and Excel Power BI (Pivot Tables a must) to communicate trends and analyze forecasts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Exceptional time management skills

Attention to detail and critical thinking skills

Prior experience applying FARS/DFARS principles in a regulatory environment

Outstanding communication skills

Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment as well as independently

Proven ability to use planning software such as Microsoft Project to create economic order lead times and quantities and apply earned value to same.

Ability to work under pressure.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Government contract experience or manufacturing engineering process experience a plus.

Experience using project/program scheduling software

Demonstrated experience with defense/aerospace manufacturing
