We also offer over 1,000 programs and over 70 special events, impacting the community in many different ways. The Fargo Park District has an elected committee of five board members. Meeting both in small committees and monthly as an entire board, they discuss current issues facing the district and establish district policies. The district itself is divided into the Finance Department, Recreation Department, Parks Department, Cultural Activities Department, Human Resources & Payroll, Valley Senior Services and Courts Plus Community Fitness. About the Role

Reports To: Head Golf Professional / Pro Shop Manager / Assistant Golf Professional

  

Position Summary

The Golf Course Starter & Player Assistant plays a vital role in delivering an organized, welcoming, and enjoyable golf experience. This position supports both the starting area and on-course operations by ensuring proper pace of play, assisting players, enforcing course policies, and maintaining strong communication with professional staff.

  

Key Responsibilities

Player Services & Starting Area

• Greet golfers in a friendly, professional manner
• Verify tee times and ensure groups begin play on schedule
• Provide scorecards, cart rules, and general course information
• Pair groups when necessary to maximize tee sheet efficiency
• Assist with tournament and league starts as needed
• Maintain a clean and organized starter area

Pace of Play & Course Flow

• Monitor pace of play on the first tee and throughout the course
• Encourage proper pace of play standards in a courteous, professional manner
• Communicate delays or slow play issues to the Pro Shop
• Work collaboratively with all staff to maintain smooth course flow

Customer Service & Communication

• Provide friendly assistance and answer basic player questions
• Communicate course rules, cart policies, and daily notices clearly
• Serve as a liaison between golfers and Pro Shop staff
• Represent the facility in a professional, approachable manner at all times

Course Care & Policy Enforcement

• Enforce cart rules and course policies
• Monitor for outside food, alcohol, or unauthorized activities
• Report safety concerns, medical issues, or incidents immediately
• Assist in keeping the course clean and orderly (trash removal, stray carts, etc.)
• Report course conditions or customer concerns promptly

Requirements

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
• Knowledge of golf rules and etiquette preferred (training provided)
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
• Reliable, punctual, and customer-service oriented
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment

  

Availability

• Seasonal position (spring–fall)
• Flexible scheduling required
• Weekend, evening, and holiday hours may be required
