Job Summary: Performs all ultrasound examinations as requested by the referring physicians.
Job Results & Essential Function
? Performs all ultrasound examinations as requested by the referring physicians.
? Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
? Selects and operates equipment as directed.
? Assists physician with invasive procedures (cyst punctures, needle biopsies, and amniocentesis) by preparing the room (set up the tray) and the patient and the using of the equipment.
? Lifts, moves, and transports patients via wheelchair or cart.
? Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
? Secures and returns supplies (film, linen, medicine, patient folders, etc.)
? Consults with others to obtain a complete clinical history; gathers pertinent clinical data.
? Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
? Transports patients when necessary.
? Takes “call” as scheduled.
? Supervises student technologists in the clinical area.
? Attends educational programs as interest and availability allow (30 CEU/3 years are required to maintain registries)

Requirements
Education & Experience
- Formal training in diagnostic Ultrasound techniques is required.
- Previous training in Radiological Sciences is helpful for anatomy and physiology, understanding of many disease processes, what could be found in each, along with typical sizes of structures.
- Ultrasound experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
License and/or Certifications
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or eligible.
- Must have passed the RDMS physics exam (verified on www.ardms.org).
Skills
- Must be detailed oriented and be passionate about customer service.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to operate data entry keyboard.
- Excellent math, organizational, verbal communication skills.
- Experience with multiple systems, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Monographic and Medical Terminology preferred
Physical Demands
Must be able to transverse, remain in a stationary position, operate equipment, ascend and descend stairs, position patients, move up to 50 lbs., and use many kinds of equipment in the department and throughout the hospital.
Language Ability
Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/trade/technical journals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to accurately exchange information verbally with hospital personnel and patients
Math Ability
Basic math skills and competency in creating figures such as proportions, percentages, rates, and/or ratios.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Working Conditions
Electrical energy and ionizing radiation may be present; PPE is provided.
