About the team

Internal Audit at the University of Sydney sits at the heart of governance — providing independent assurance, insurance management and investigations across one of Australia's most complex and dynamic institutions. We work directly with senior leadership and the Senate Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, our work is seen and our findings matter.

And the work means something. The University of Sydney has spent over 170 years empowering brilliant minds from all walks of life to strive for better – for themselves, their communities and their world. Our 2032 Strategy is built on a sense of responsibility to contribute to a better world. Internal Audit helps protect and strengthen that mission.  If you're looking for variety, influence and purpose, this is it.

About the opportunity

Join the University of Sydney as the Senior Manager Investigations and lead important work that supports integrity, accountability and trust across a dynamic and complex organisation.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of complex and sensitive investigations into allegations of wrongdoing. You will ensure investigations are conducted efficiently, fairly and in line with policy and legislation, including the NSW Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will provide expert advice, oversee reporting, and drive continuous improvement in investigative practices.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead complex and sensitive investigation activities, delivering high-integrity and high quality outcomes
  • provide strong leadership, guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
  • build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders across the University, positioning yourself as a valued advisor
  • oversee external investigation providers, coordinating work allocation, stakeholder engagement, financial management and the delivery of high-quality investigation outcomes and reports
  • maintain strong, professional relationships with external oversight and integrity bodies, including ICAC and the NSW Ombudsman.

About you

  • tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in relevant field
  • minimum certificate IV in Government Investigations
  • hold a valid National Police Check
  • proven experience leading and delivering complex, sensitive and confidential investigations within large public sector organisations, ideally within higher education
  • strong investigative expertise, including planning, interviewing, evidence analysis and report writing
  • demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams to manage sensitive information, protect reporters, and identify and mitigate associated risks, including managing Public Interest Disclosure matters
  • exceptional judgement and professionalism, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and integrity.
