We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Light Vehicle Mechanic at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Light Vehicle Mechanic reports to the Light Vehicle Leading Hand, with a primary role of maintaining underground and surface light vehicles and associated ancillary equipment, minimising downtime and ensuring targeted machine reliability is achieved between planned maintenance tasks within the operation.

Duties include:

  • Undertake diagnostic, breakdowns, follow-up work, PM's to a high standard of execution, all work completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensures workmanship through meeting standards and tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs as necessary.
  • Liaise closely with and maintain effective communication with Leading Hand and other key Stakeholders to organise priority breakdowns.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively.
  • Rigorous cost management. Avoid rework and the unnecessary use of parts/services.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are completed in accordance with Company policy such as Hazard ID's, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting as required.


What are we looking for?

You'll be a highly organised individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development. 

The specifics:

  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in light vehicle maintenance; Ford experience required!
  • Excellent fault-finding skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications
  • Proficient in prioritising work
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Basic literacy, must be able to read and write in English
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto or similar CMMS.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations. 
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The Details:


Working a 3 week on, 3 week off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
