About the Role

Plant Manager

Location- Burlington, WA

Reports to- Director of Manufacturing


Job Description 

Summary/Objective

The Plant Manager oversees the production, safety, maintenance, and quality assurance functions of our Burlington Plant. The Plant Manager is a multitasker that will coordinate the plant’s manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with company objectives, quality systems, and customer expectations.

  • Is accountable for all aspects of PWT Burlington operations, including inbound/outbound freight. 
  • Ownership of factory Safety Culture and oversee Safety Management System (assuring training, accountability, continuous improvement systems)
    • Assure L&I and OSHA requirements are met.
    • Sponsor Safety Committee
    • Compliance to environmental standards and permits
  • Ownership of factory employee administrative systems
    • Hiring/termination, onboarding, promotions for hourly and salary employees
    • Succession planning for leadership/technical roles.
    • Develop and nurture a collaborative and diverse team of contributors.
    • Sponsor and help build positive and successful team culture.
  • Oversight of QC, Maintenance, and Operations teams (Press, Products, Shipping, Scheduling) and direct Manager of the department Managers and Supervisors
    • Assure adherence to Quality management System (QC standards)
    • Continuous improvement in Maintenance Management System, Quality Management System and Operations Management Systems
    • Accountable for production budget, scheduling and volume achievement, unsold reclaim production decisions, work order decisions.
  • Administrative responsibilities
    • Analyze factory data, including PR, to maintain current understanding of performance.
    • Manage and report on safety, quality, production, and cost elements pertaining to budge/forecasting (provide reporting to VP on weekly, monthly basis)
    • Manage/control plant expenses
    • Understand products costing and gain ability to utilize costing models to drive efficiency/understanding production decisions.
    • Responsible for continuous improvement systems for efficiency. Data driven systems that continues to improve (PR)
    • Frequent speaking role in quarterly crew meetings
    • Contribute to company policy refinement (team activity) and implementation.
    • Develop, communicate, nurture the vision for the plant culture.
  • CAPEX: Coordinate with Director of Manufacturing on budget and lead the development annual CAPEX plans
    • Oversee implementation.
    • Accountable for actuals vs. budget
    • Responsible for project management on key projects
  • Support Director of Manufacturing
    • Strategic and tactical planning discussions
    • Budgeting, forecasting, and planning
    • Business development analysis, account assessment for Operations
    • Company policy modifications, work system improvements
    • Other duties as assigned

Competencies

  • Ability to communicate with government agencies, customers vendors, PWT SMT on key issues.
  • Understanding of analytical methods and statistical analysis principles
  • Advanced computer literacy (Office 365 suite), NetSuite, Excel Tools development, Basic ODBC Query development
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with SMT and staff roles outside your team (Accounting, IT, Supply Chain)
  • Ability to successfully lead large organization (100+ employees) in manufacturing environment including shipping is required.

Work Environment-

Office environment and Manufacturing plant

Temperature- High temps between 80-100 degrees. Depends on time of year

Noise- Decibels can average around 90 dBA and reach peaks up to 115 dBA.

Physical Demands-

Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time

Travel Requirements 

Occasional travel will be required: trade shows, customer visits, vendor visits, technical meetings and visiting other PWT plants. Expect this to average no more than 4 weeks per year.

Required Education and Experience

  • Leadership team development experience in Manufacturing or similar business is required.
  • Advanced degree such as business administration, manufacturing engineering, applied economics, MBA along with at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in environment similar to PWT.
    • Form education can be substituted with at least 20 years of related and progressive business/ leadership experience.
