Description

Job Summary: The Dietary Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the dining services within an assisted living facility. This role involves ensuring that residents receive nutritious, well-balanced, and appetizing meals that meet their dietary needs and preferences. The Dietary Supervisor will lead the dietary team, maintain compliance with health and safety standards, and ensure a positive dining experience for all residents.

Key Responsibilities:


1.   Meal Planning & Preparation:

  • Collaborate with dietitians and  other healthcare professionals to plan menus that meet the dietary requirements of residents, including those with specific health conditions or dietary restrictions.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner while maintaining high standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Supervise the preparation of meals according to established recipes, portion control, and food safety regulations.


2.   Staff Supervision & Training:

  • Supervise and train dietary staff, including cooks, kitchen aides, and other dining services employees, ensuring they adhere to policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and ensure staff development through continuous education and training.


3.   Inventory & Purchasing:

  • Oversee the ordering, inventory management, and storage of food supplies and kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor stock levels to ensure all food items are available and stored according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Work within budgetary guidelines to purchase quality ingredients and control food costs.

4.   Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety, sanitation, and dietary standards.
  • Maintain safe food handling, storage, and preparation practices in accordance with Health Department regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the kitchen and dining areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Adhere to all facility policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and confidentiality.


5.   Resident Interaction &  Customer Service:

  • Maintain open communication with residents to understand their dietary preferences and address any concerns related to meals or dining experiences.
  • Address resident and family concerns in a professional and timely manner, ensuring satisfaction with dining services.
  • Participate in resident care meetings to discuss dietary needs and meal planning adjustments.


6.   Documentation & Reporting:

  • Keep accurate records of meals served, dietary restrictions, food safety logs, and employee schedules.
  • Prepare regular reports on food costs, inventory levels, and staff performance.


7.   Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments such as nursing and activities to coordinate special meals or events.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the management team to discuss facility operations and resident satisfaction.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

  


Requirements

  • Current Physical and TB test
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in food service management, nutrition, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a dietary or food service management role, preferably in an assisted living or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and dietary needs of elderly residents.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe) is a plus.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Standing, walking, and moving throughout the kitchen and dining areas for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions (e.g., temperature changes from hot kitchen to cold storage areas).

  • Assisted living facility, kitchen, and dining areas.
