WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE
The Asset & Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on, journeyman-level leader responsible for overseeing warehouse mechanics while actively participating in daily maintenance activities and asset reliability efforts within a high-volume warehouse environment. This role is intended for a working supervisor who leads from the floor, sets clear performance expectations, and ensures accountability for safety, quality, and productivity.
The Asset & Maintenance Supervisor works closely with Warehouse Operations, Inventory, and cross-functional support teams to maintain equipment uptime, ensure safe operation, and deliver timely repairs that meet shipping and distribution requirements. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing standardized maintenance processes, labor time standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to drive efficiency, consistency, and safe execution of maintenance work.
- Supervise mechanics while actively performing and supporting troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and preventive maintenance activities to ensure timely equipment recovery
- Prioritize maintenance work based on warehouse operational impact and communicate equipment status, downtime risks, and repair timelines to warehouse leadership
- Review and prioritize maintenance and repair requests submitted by warehouse personnel through SharePoint
- Create, update, and close maintenance work orders in JD Edwards (JDE) with accurate labor hours, parts usage, and repair details
- Ensure work orders are properly documented to support performance tracking, labor standards, and maintenance history
- Coordinate repairs with internal departments and external vendors when work cannot be completed by warehouse mechanics
- Establish and enforce standard labor times and performance expectations for maintenance and repair activities
- Develop and maintain a job-based maintenance task and time knowledge base
- Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for maintenance and repair tasks
- Ensure SOPs and JSAs are trained, communicated, and consistently followed
- Assign work, monitor productivity, and hold mechanics accountable to safety, quality, and efficiency standards
- Address performance gaps through coaching, retraining, and corrective action as necessary
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are executed as planned, accurately documented, and continuously improved
- Maintain and support warehouse assets including forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, trailers, racking, and warehouse facility support systems such as dock doors, lighting, compressed air, and safety infrastructure
- Monitor maintenance trends, repeat failures, and downtime patterns to recommend reliability improvements
- Identify, recommend, and support implementation of equipment upgrades, process improvements, and safety enhancements that improve operational efficiency and reduce risk
- Support capital projects related to warehouse equipment, infrastructure, and asset replacement, including planning, coordination, and execution support
- Verify spare parts inventories and support cost control efforts related to repairs, rentals, and materials
- Enforce all maintenance and equipment safety standards, including lockout/tagout, hazard identification, safety training, and audit readiness
- Train, coach, and develop mechanics to improve technical capability, consistency, and accountability
- Provide schedule flexibility and emergency response support based on warehouse operational needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess journeyman-level mechanical and technical expertise within warehouse, distribution, or industrial environments
- Must have demonstrated leadership experience supervising skilled trades employees, including setting performance expectations and addressing underperformance
- Must have strong working knowledge of material handling equipment and warehouse systems
- Must be able to establish job standards, time expectations, and measurable performance benchmarks
- Must demonstrate the ability to develop, document, and maintain SOPs and JSAs for maintenance and repair activities
- Must be able to train employees on SOPs and JSAs and consistently reinforce safe and standardized work practices
- Must be able to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and related documentation
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated success improving technician productivity and equipment reliability
- Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced warehouse environment
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Must have experience using computerized maintenance management systems or ERP platforms (JD Edwards preferred), as well as SharePoint or similar tools for maintenance request intake and coordination
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School/GED or 5 years of experience in related fields or combination of both education and experience, preferably in a warehouse, distribution, or industrial environment
- At least 2 years of experience in a lead or supervisory role overseeing mechanics or technicians
- Strong mechanical, mathematical, and computer skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft products
- Experience supporting maintenance and cost control
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Forklift Certification or must be able to obtain forklift certification within 30 days of hire
- Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility.This includesmaintaininga clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field
- Formal training in industrial maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems preferred
- CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional)
- Facilities Management certifications (BOMI, IFMA)
- Electrical, HVAC, or Mechanical certifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Environmental exposure - cold/wet conditions (40 °Fahrenheit or below); will work in the warehouse building as well as ALL facilities (indoor and outdoor).
- Material exposure – moving mechanical parts
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 55 lbs.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3-point contact on a regular basis when assigned to perform work duties in Main Shipping area.
- Ability to use hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, and handle scanning objects in one position or in a repetitive motion for an extended period.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
HOURS & WORKDAYS:
1st Shift – 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
