Child Focus is seeking a compassionate, clinically skilled, and collaborative Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner to provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and integrated behavioral health services within our Outpatient Behavioral Health and Behavioral Health Urgent Care programs. This position offers the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving access to high-quality mental health care for children, adolescents, adults, and families throughout our community.
The Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner will assess, diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications for individuals experiencing behavioral health concerns, including those requiring urgent psychiatric intervention.
Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP/APRN) is responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health disorders, prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications, and collaborating with therapists, case managers, crisis teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated treatment. The position serves clients in both outpatient behavioral health settings and Behavioral Health Urgent Care, providing timely access to psychiatric care and crisis stabilization support.
Essential Responsibilities
Psychiatric Assessment & Treatment
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments.
Diagnose behavioral health disorders
Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and treatment teams.
Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychiatric medications within Ohio APRN prescribing authority.
Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, adherence, and treatment outcomes.
Provide education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and recovery strategies.
Behavioral Health Urgent Care Services
Provide same-day or rapid-access psychiatric evaluations for individuals presenting with urgent behavioral health needs.
Assess risk factors related to suicide, homicide, self-harm, substance use, and psychiatric decompensation.
Collaborate with the crisis team, therapists, and community providers to determine appropriate levels of care.
Facilitate referrals to higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
Collaboration & Care Coordination
Work closely with therapists, counselors, care coordinators, primary care providers, and community partners.
Participate in multidisciplinary case consultations and treatment team meetings.
Support integrated care initiatives and continuity of treatment across programs.
Coordinate care transitions following psychiatric hospitalization, crisis intervention, or urgent care visits.
Documentation & Compliance
Complete clinical documentation, assessments, treatment plans, medication records, and progress notes within established agency timeframes.
Maintain compliance with Ohio Board of Nursing regulations, DEA requirements, Medicaid standards, CARF standards, and agency policies.
Ensure appropriate prescribing practices and controlled substance monitoring.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing
- Current Ohio APRN license in good standing.
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Current DEA registration with full prescribing authority.
- Experience conducting psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.
Preferred
- Two (2) or more years of psychiatric prescribing experience.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.
- Experience in community mental health, urgent care, crisis services, or outpatient behavioral health settings.
- Experience serving Medicaid populations and individuals with complex behavioral health needs.
