About the Role

Downer is seeking a Junior Estimator who will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders and quotations, while supporting the Sales and Business Development team in securing new work and maintaining strong client relationships. Based out of Hume, ACT this role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects, collaborate with key stakeholders, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and submit Requests for Tender (RFT) and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) responses within required timeframes.
  • Develop detailed first-principles cost estimates in accordance with company procedures.
  • Review contract documentation and drawings to identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Draft tender qualifications and conditions for review.
  • Present tender submissions at review meetings and contribute to tender strategy discussions.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Business Development, Account Management, and operational teams to prioritise workloads and support business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities to develop new business.
  • Manage tender pipelines, databases, and customer portals to support forecasting and work-winning activities.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • A foundational understanding of estimating, preferably within a relevant industry environment. 
  • Strong mathematical and analytical capability, with experience preparing first-principles estimates. 
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and time-management skills. 
  • The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to identifying new business opportunities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • A strategic mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and a personable, collaborative working style.
