Administrative Fellow - Year 1

The UPMC Administrative Fellowship Program is a two-year leadership development program for post-graduate level students with a passion for health care management. We are recruiting for two of UPMC's divisions, Health Services Division and Insurance Services Division.
This position will start summer 2027.
This position has set rate of $32.57/hr.
Applications will open on Monday, July 6, 2026, and will close on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
Fellows participate in core functional rotations during their first year of the program and pursue a specific interest during their second year of the program.
During this time, the fellow will be involved in various projects, meetings, and initiatives.
Upon completion of the program, fellows are prepared to move into highly competitive roles within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a written summary of experiences and key issues learned at the conclusion of each rotation, and must provide feedback on how the rotation could be improved
- Meet regularly with preceptors and mentors and provide all necessary information to ensure a mutually beneficial experience
- Attend all relevant management and administrative meetings. May be required to provide administrative support for some of these meetings
- Build relationships throughout the organization and proactively seek projects and opportunities for the second year of the Fellowship
- Complete all tasks and projects as assigned by members of the executive team
- Assist in the recruitment of new Administrative Fellows and should serve as a mentor for junior colleagues
- Performs other duties as assigned
This position requires completion of a MBA, MHA, MPH or masters equivalent from an accredited educational institution or program seeking accreditation (Note that candidates finishing a graduate degree program that requires an administrative fellowship after completing classroom curriculum are eligible to apply) The ability to interface with numerous players in various departments and entities is important.

The personal statement must address all of the following prompts in a cohesive essay format:
- Describe how the UPMC Fellowship Program aligns with your professional career goals in both the short-term (1-5 years) and long-term (5+ years).
- Discuss your first work experience (college or earlier) and describe the valuable skills it provided to you.
- Provide a brief summary of hobbies and personal interests.
- To demonstrate the track(s) you are interested in, please answer the following question(s). If you are interested in multiple tracks, please respond to all applicable questions.
- If you are interested in applying for the Health Services Division track: When you imagine contributing to the future of health care, what types of problems do you feel most motivated to solve, and why?
- If you are interested in applying for the Insurance Services Division track: Integrated delivery and finance systems (IDFS), such as UPMC, allow for collaboration between insurers and healthcare providers to most effectively tackle complex problems. From this perspective, describe a healthcare problem that you believe would be better addressed by the insurance side rather than a healthcare provider. Why do you think the insurance side is the right place to address it?
