About the Role

Youth Development Professional

Job Type: Part-Time, Nonexempt
Location: Modesto, CA
Pay Range: $17.00–$19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Reports To: Site Coordinator


Work Schedule

Monday through Friday. Work hours vary based on assigned site and program needs and may include morning, afternoon, and after-school hours. Additional hours may be scheduled during school breaks, training sessions, special programs, and organizational events.


Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for providing direct supervision, guidance, and high-quality youth development programming to Club members. The YDP supports educational, enrichment, recreational, and social-emotional programming while maintaining a safe, positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for youth.


Youth Development Professionals serve as positive role models and are responsible for implementing assigned programs, supporting members' academic and personal development, and consistently following Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County policies, procedures, safety requirements, and program standards.



Requirements

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Provide direct and active supervision of Club members to support their safety and well-being.

· Plan, prepare, and implement assigned educational, enrichment, recreational, and youth development programs in accordance with approved curriculum, program schedules, and organizational expectations.

· Facilitate homework assistance, academic support, and educational activities designed to support the development of Club members.

· Conduct daily programs in a manner that promotes youth engagement, participation, and a positive Club experience.

· Provide positive guidance, encouragement, and role modeling to Club members.

· Support positive youth behavior by consistently reinforcing Club expectations, implementing approved behavior management practices, and reporting significant behavioral concerns to the Site Coordinator.

· Maintain a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all Club members.

· Maintain a working knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, program expectations, calendars, and special events.

· Follow all organizational safety procedures and immediately report hazards, injuries, incidents, suspected policy violations, and other significant concerns to the Site Coordinator or appropriate supervisor.

· Collaborate with the Site Coordinator, other Youth Development Professionals, and applicable school personnel to support member needs and program implementation.

· Assist with the supervision of members during indoor activities, outdoor activities, transitions, meals, and other assigned program periods.

· Prepare assigned program areas and maintain program supplies, equipment, books, tables, chairs, and other materials.

· Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces.

· Complete required program documentation, evaluations, attendance-related responsibilities, and other assigned records accurately and within established deadlines.

· Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.

· Maintain a positive, professional, and appropriate demeanor when interacting with youth, families, coworkers, school personnel, and community partners.

· Perform additional duties as assigned based on organizational and program needs.


Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Experience working with school-age youth in an educational, recreational, after-school, childcare, or youth development environment preferred.

· Knowledge of or interest in positive youth development practices.

· Strong organizational and time-management skills.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

· Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced youth program environment.

· Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with youth, parents and guardians, coworkers, and supervisors.

· Ability to learn and consistently implement the mission, values, policies, procedures, and program standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County.

· Ability to use email, Google Docs, and other technology and systems required for the position.

· Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certification within the timeframe required by the organization.

Employment is contingent upon completion of all legally required and organizational pre-employment screening and onboarding requirements applicable to the position. Employees must complete and maintain required mandated reporter, child abuse prevention, safety, and other training required by Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County and applicable law.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

The position requires active supervision and participation in youth programming in indoor and outdoor environments. Essential functions may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, and moving throughout program areas; responding appropriately to emergency situations involving youth; and occasionally lifting or moving program materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.


The work environment may range from quiet to moderate in office or academic settings and may be loud during recreational activities and youth programming.
