Job Title:       Substitute, Various Opportunities

Job Status:   Part-Time


Job Summary 

TKA is a Christ-centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are seeking substitutes who are followers of Jesus Christ and dedicated to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The primary responsibility of a Substitute is to provide daily coverage so student learning may continue seamlessly when the regular classroom teacher or staff is absent.

  • Work will be performed from the campus
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds

Substitute Teachers (K-12)

  • Instruct students using the lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher
  • Check the roster and submit attendance in FACTS within the first 15-minutes of each class
  • If any students have accommodations, adjust accordingly 
  • Maintain classroom management to ensure maximum learning
  • Leave a summary of pertinent details for the regular classroom teacher to review when they return
  • Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Broad knowledge and experience teaching
    • Credential in the field related to teaching assignment is preferred
    • 1+ years of experience teaching students in a classroom, Sunday school, or youth group
    • Excellent skills in communicating both orally and in written form
    • Ability to learn new computer software systems
  • Reports To: Substitute Coordinator
  • Classification: Exempt
  • Pay Grid Range: Half Day- $90, Full Day- $180, Additional Class Period- $25 per class
  • Work is generally performed, Mid-August-Early June, Monday-Friday from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm

Substitute Teacher’s Assistant (K-5)

  • Assist teacher with supervision & instruction during instructional & non-instructional times (e.g., recess, lunch, transitions)
  • Help prepare classroom materials, maintain organized learning spaces, & assist with data entry
  • Assist with classroom management and reinforcing behavioral expectations
  • Communicate student needs and concerns promptly and appropriately to the teacher
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters
  • Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience working with children in a classroom or ministry setting is highly desirable.
    • Ability to take direction, work cooperatively with a team, and demonstrate initiative when appropriate.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods as needed.

  • Classification: Non-Exempt
  • Pay Grid Range: $22 per hour
  • Work is generally performed, Mid-August-Early June, Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-1:30 pm

Substitute Extended-Care Staff

  • Maintains a safe and fun environment on the playground and inside the classroom
  • Ensures a healthy environment by maintaining cleanliness and ensuring proper cleaning of classrooms, toys, games, and sports equipment
  • Refers difficult behavior matters to the Extended Care Director
  • Maintains professional, respectful, and open communication
  • Follows implemented expectations/boundaries and discipline procedures set by TKA
  • Always knows the whereabouts of each child in your care
  • Able to implement organized age-appropriate games and crafts
  • Assists students with homework study
  • Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • 1+ years of experience working with children in a school, ministry, summer, or after-school program
  • Reports To: Director of Extended-Care & Enrichment 
  • Classification: Non-Exempt
  • Pay Grid Range: $22 per hour
  • Work is generally performed, Mid-August-Early June, Monday-Friday from 2:30 pm-5:30 pm

Substitute Receptionist

  • Welcome guests and direct them accordingly
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls
  • Receive packages, notify recipients, and place in holding area
  • Send and receive mail
  • Assist with administrative duties as needed
  • Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Administrative support experience preferred
  • Reports To: Executive Assistant to HOS 
  • Classification: Non-Exempt
  • Pay Grid Range: $22 per hour
  • Work is generally performed from mid-August to early June, Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4:00 pm

Substitute Library Assistant

  • Perform daily opening and closing of the library 
  • Oversee student use of media center, enforcing school policies and procedures
  • Operate circulation desk (logs, overdue notices, check in and out library materials)
  • Provide support to students with library resources and materials
  • Process new library materials and textbooks
  • Participate in textbook distribution and audit for inventory of classroom sets
  • Computer proficient (Knowledgeable with PC, Apple, and Google Suite products)
  • Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • 2+ years’ administrative experience (school setting is preferred)
    • Detail-oriented, organized, with strong customer service and interpersonal skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills and team player
  • Reports To: Librarian 
  • Classification: Non-Exempt
  • Pay Grid Range: Hourly wage: $22 per hour
  • Work is generally performed from the beginning of July until end of May. Monday-Friday 7:30-4:00pm or 8:30-5:00pm
