General Job Description
Dogwood Industries is seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to support and enhance the quality, reliability, and performance of externally supplied products, materials, and services. This position is responsible for ensuring supplier compliance with Dogwood Industries' quality requirements, industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory obligations.
The SQE will lead supplier qualification and evaluation activities, conduct supplier audits, manage supplier nonconformances and corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain. This role will work closely with Procurement, Production, Engineering, Design/Detailing, Project Management, and Quality teams to proactively identify risks, resolve quality issues, improve supplier performance, and ensure that materials and components consistently meet established requirements.
Additionally, the Supplier Quality Engineer will support the development and maintenance of quality procedures, inspection requirements, supplier quality agreements, and performance metrics while promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement across both internal operations and external suppliers.
This position plays a critical role in reducing supplier-related quality issues, improving product conformity, minimizing project delays, and supporting Dogwood Industries' commitment to delivering high-quality products to customers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Supplier Quality Management
- Qualify, evaluate, and approve suppliers in accordance with Dogwood Industries requirements.
- Develop and maintain supplier qualification processes, assessments, and approval records.
- Monitor supplier performance through established metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Maintain supplier scorecards and communicate performance expectations and results.
- Lead supplier development initiatives to improve quality, delivery, responsiveness, and overall performance.
- Support strategic supplier selection activities by evaluating supplier quality capabilities and risks.
Supplier Compliance & Auditing
- Plan, conduct, and document supplier audits to verify compliance with contractual, technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Verify supplier adherence to drawings, specifications, work instructions, and customer requirements.
- Assist suppliers in understanding and interpreting quality requirements, engineering drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Support supplier compliance with applicable standards, certifications, and quality management system requirements.
Nonconformance & Corrective Action Management
- Manage supplier-related nonconformances, rejections, and quality escapes.
- Coordinate supplier corrective actions with Procurement, Engineering, Project Management, Production, and other affected departments.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and verification of corrective action effectiveness.
- Track and trend supplier quality issues to identify recurring problems and opportunities for improvement.
- Escalate significant supplier quality risks and concerns to management as appropriate.
Quality Systems & Process Improvement
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes, procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Support ISO 9001, AISC, and other applicable certification activities, audits, and compliance efforts.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, risk reduction, and process standardization.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting systems.
Cross-Functional Support
- Collaborate with Engineering and Design/Detailing to ensure quality requirements are clearly defined prior to release.
- Partner with Production teams to establish, verify, and improve manufacturing quality controls.
- Review and validate work order routings to ensure quality requirements are appropriately incorporated into production planning and scheduling.
- Support project teams in resolving supplier-related quality concerns that may impact schedule, cost, or performance.
- Assist with ERP and business system integration related to quality processes and data management.
Documentation & Records Management
- Maintain supplier qualification records, audit reports, corrective action records, and performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain inspection reports, load test documentation, certification records, and quality documentation.
- Generate reports and analyze trends related to defects, nonconformances, inspections, supplier performance, and quality KPIs.
- Ensure quality records are maintained in accordance with company procedures and retention requirements.
Other
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field) preferred
- Understanding of paint, galvanizing and welding processes
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in quality assurance, process improvement, or manufacturing
- Experience working in steel fabrication, manufacturing, or construction industries preferred
- Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems is a plus
- Strong understanding of quality control processes, procedures, and documentation
- Experience using ERP systems for quality tracking and reporting
- Understanding of root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, able to collaborate across departments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
This position requires moderate physical activity, primarily in an office environment but may include visits to the manufacturing facilities or jobsites to collaborate and inspect materials. To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly seated at a computer desk with the option to stand, is utilizing the telephone frequently, and participating in meetings with colleagues, clients, third party vendors, etc. There are stairs in the office. In the factory setting, you may inspect and handle materials and be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors.
Compensation
$95,000 – $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Location
This is an onsite position at the Dogwood Everett Factory at 3200 35th AVE NE, Everett, WA 98201. Travel to Dogwood’s Bothell Corporate office or Sedro-Woolley Factory office, as needed.
This role is based at our physical location, and in-person attendance is required. This is a full-time, in office position.
