Description

PRN - Emergency Medical Technician [with Weekly On-Call Rotations]
Primary Focus: The primary purpose of the EMT is to provide emergency care to patients who are being transported or treated during an ambulance run. The EMT assists any medical provider during an emergency to get the patient to the care center. Note: the majority of the hours work are "on-call" by week hours at a rate of $4.50 per hour. Call-In worked time is paid at $20.00 hourly with a min. of 2 hours paid.


Essential Functions:

  • Performs basic and/or intermediate life support. 
  • Demonstrates patient care skills and/or safe driving skills in the pre-hospital setting within the guidelines set by the State of Washington.
  • Is certified regarding detailed scope of practices, practices in conjunction with the Lincoln County EMS Field Protocols.
  • Able to use: Medical control systems, all emergency service equipment, tools, vehicles and facilities appropriately.
  • Works hand in hand with the volunteer fire department staff; is able to learn and utilize a wide variety of emergency medical and fire services equipment and methods.
  • Must have considerable ability to understand and follow specific verbal and written instructions; is able to act calmly, coherently and decisively in high stress, high noise and emotionally charged situations; is able to accurately, legibly and efficiently complete all required medical records and reports.
  • Maintains a courteous, helpful attitude and good working relationship with other employees, agencies, volunteer fire department staff and management personnel.
  • Completes the annual mandatory training and CPR.
  • Responds to all emergency medical service incidents and transports as directed and/or dispatched.
  • Is able to assist in evacuating the general public from dangerous situations, works with firemen to free people entrapped in autos or buildings.
  • Performs all necessary emergency medical patient care and life saving procedures within detailed scope of practice.
  • Is able to clean and disinfect all emergency medical equipment, vehicles and fire apparatus appropriately and safely. 
  • Restocks and maintains the assigned inventory in each vehicle and kit.
  • Follows rules and guidelines as set forth by the Department of Health, Lincoln County protocol and local EMS policy, procedures and safety activities.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in the up-keep of ambulance and equipment. 
  • Follows standard safety procedures.
  • Operates all radio and other communications equipment in a professional way; performs related EMS duties, functions, work required and/or assigned.
  • When on-call, must be with in 10 minutes driving distance and cannot consume anything that might impair focus or function (weather prescription or non-prescription). Is responsible for keeping aware of the updated on-call schedule. If on-call, but unable to work, then will be responsible to find a replacement for the on-call shift.

Requirements

 Required Education and Certification

  • Current EMT Certification in the state of Washington.
  • Current CPR training and certification.
  • Documentation of 7 hours AIDS training.

Schedule: 


EMTs are supplemental, on-call position. EMTs are assigned to a team of EMTs, and the teams are placed on a rotating schedule of on-call status by the EMS coordinator, which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. EMTs generally work for weekly periods of on-call shifts.
