The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.
We are currently seeking a FT Alpha Chaplain at The Caring Place Center for Men in Miami, FL,
JOB SUMMARY
The Alpha Chaplain (AC) reports to the Case Management Supervisor, and is responsible for providing support to residents who are at the Alpha stage of rehabilitation. The AC must be able to sign the Mission’s Statement of Faith. Duties include disciplining residents on the true meaning of salvation, and teaching them how to implement biblical principles into their restoration from addictions. Teaches relapse prevention techniques from a biblical perspective, and facilitates support groups on a weekly or monthly basis as needed. Guides Alpha residents to practice biblical coping skills to overcome addictions, and what it means to their personal salvation. Educates, empowers and equips residents by using biblical discipleship techniques. Acts as a spiritual counselor and guide, using the Holy Scriptures as a solid foundation for continued restoration and commitment to overcoming addictions.
CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsels residents on the spiritual component of recovery by application of solid biblical truths and principles.
- Disciple residents on the true meaning of salvation.
- Teaches residents how to incorporate biblical principles into their restoration from addictions.
- Teaches relapse prevention techniques from a biblical perspective, and facilitates support groups on a weekly or monthly basis as needed.
- Acts as a spiritual counselor and mentor, using the Holy Scriptures as a solid foundation in teachings for continued restoration and commitment to overcoming addictions.
- Leads by personal testimony.
- Shows a professional demeanor in interactions with residents, staff, volunteers, and outside professional contacts.
- Represents the Mission at conferences, meetings and churches as needed.
- While acting as staff on duty, follows all required procedures, guidelines and checklists.
- Tracks and records progress of each assigned client.
- Compiles and submits accurate and timely reports, including timesheets
- Attends company sponsored events to support the residents we serve
- Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
- Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
- Performs other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED with sound biblical and addictions training; college degree in Social Sciences, Biblical Studies or Divinity is preferred
- Must be an ordained Minister of the Gospel, and have at least 1 year of experience in homeless or similar ministry
- Must have experience in individual and group teaching.
- Must have the ability to disciple individuals by teaching solid biblical truths, emphasizing salvation through the acceptance of Jesus Christ.
- Knowledge of addiction, recovery principles and relapse prevention necessary due to the special population being served
- Must be able to teach and lead residents by testimony.
- Requires a professional demeanor to effectively interact with all levels of residents, employees, volunteers and outside professional contacts
- Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English; conversational Spanish is highly desirable.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation and sexual orientation
- Must have the ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency
- Must be organized and detail oriented
- Must be computer literate have experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
- Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
