About the Role

SAAF Mission

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation seeks to reduce HIV transmission, provide support and treatment for those living with HIV, reduce stigma and support positive sexual health. SAAF provides sexual health education, STI and HIV testing and counseling, medical care, case management, housing and meal support, mental health services and referrals for dental health.

Contract

Under the supervision of the Care Clinic Medical Director and in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, the position will function as a healthcare provider in the Care Clinic of SAAF, providing HIV, PrEP, STI and primary care for patients in these programs.

This position demands a high level of cultural competency of the unique needs of the LGBTQIA++ community, communities of color, and other marginalized populations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the Texas Medical Board, and Ryan White procedures and protocols. In addition, complies with US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and Texas Department of State Health Services guidelines for treating HIV, PrEP, and STI clients.
  • Completes and reviews health histories.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Reviews and orders appropriate laboratory tests, immunizations, behavior risk assessment, specimen collection, test orders, review of lab results and determination of clinical eligibility for PrEP prescription and administers STI treatment.
  • Provides clinical direction for the HIV/STI PrEP clinic.
  • Provides clinical direction for mobile health units, clinical staff as needed.
  • Seeks to assure that HIV PrEP/STI clinic and all Care Clinic program policies and procedures are followed.
  • Establishes positive relationships with local medical community and attends local medical society functions; be an ambassador for SAAF
  • Expand the scope of services available through community referrals.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  •  Graduated as a Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  •  Experience handling complex patient loads.
  •  Basic computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  •  Experience navigating through Electronic Medical Records.

Education and/or Experience:

Preference will be given to work experience in a public health or community clinic setting, completion of an accredited primary care residency program, or Board Certification (or eligible) in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

License and / or Certification:

  •  Current licensure as an MD/DO/PA/NP to practice in the State of TX by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Current DEA, DPS certification
  •  Current CPR Certification required (ACLS preferred)
  •  DOT Certification
  •  Current Immunization Records
  •  Current PPD
  •  Must be able to meet and maintain current SAAF credentialing and privileging requirements.

Working conditions

Schedule: The Care Clinic operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We do not currently operate outside of these hours but are open to telehealth outside these hours. SAAF testing occurs Tuesday until 8pm and Saturdays 11-2. In the future we would like to expand the clinic hours to reflect testing hours.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and/or sit. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
