About the role
Deep specialist knowledge is accumulating faster than it can be documented and this role exists to get ahead of that. You will work directly with subject-matter experts across the business, drawing out expertise that currently lives in conversations and informal documents, and converting it into digital learning content that remains useful and accessible long after any single conversation ends. In practice that might mean turning a product expert's walkthrough, a process document and a recorded explanation into a short interactive module with checks for understanding - repeatable, reusable, and built to last.
ILIAS Solutions is part of the Patria Group, building software that supports the operational readiness of defence organisations. The L&D function sits at the centre of that mission: making sure the people who use and deliver these systems have the knowledge they need, in a form they can act on. The content you build will outlast the engagement forming the knowledge infrastructure the organisation relies on as it grows.
You do not need to be a defence expert; you need to be strong at extracting expertise from people who are.
What you'll do
Conduct knowledge-elicitation interviews with subject-matter experts to surface, structure and document fragmented expertise in a form that can be built into scalable learning content.
Design and develop digital courses including videos, visuals and interactive modules that translate specialist knowledge into clear learning journeys for the audiences who need them. The core of the role is knowledge capture and course design; authoring and multimedia production are hands-on but pragmatic, not studio-level.
Support team leads in consolidating knowledge held across people and documents, bringing coherence to material that currently exists in dispersed form.
Build and maintain a digital content library that grows sustainably with the organisation. The expected output is a repeatable course-development process and a first wave of reusable digital modules, rather than a one-off training deck.
In your first months
Your first concrete milestone is a complete knowledge-elicitation cycle with a subject-matter expert, resulting in a structured digital course delivered into the content library setting both the working method and the output standard the rest of the engagement builds on.
What you bring
The eligibility and clearance conditions below are firm. Beyond those, this is a genuine target profile if you meet most of it, we encourage you to apply.
Proven experience in learning design and digital course development, from brief through to a finished, deployable learning asset.
Working knowledge of knowledge-elicitation and structured interview techniques the ability to draw out and organise expertise from specialists who are not trained to teach.
Hands-on experience with at least one e-learning authoring tool for interactive and multimedia course content such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Captivate, iSpring, Lectora, Elucidat, or a comparable platform.
Practical experience with multimedia production tools such as Camtasia, Vyond, Powtoon or comparable for video and visual content.
Experience working with a modern LMS to publish, manage and maintain a digital content library in a live system.
Professional working proficiency in English and the right to work in Belgium; able to meet applicable export-control requirements and to obtain the required security clearance.
Nice to have
Professional working proficiency in Dutch.
Direct hands-on experience with the 360Learning platform specifically its collaborative, SME-led authoring model maps closely to how this role works, and familiarity with it will reduce ramp-up time.
Experience applying AI or Copilot tools within a learning-design workflow to accelerate knowledge capture, drafting or course iteration.
Why ILIAS
You will work with specialists across the business who hold deep, consequential expertise, and your job is to make that expertise transferable at scale. The work has a long tail: structured, reusable content that the organization can build on well beyond the length of this engagement. There is also an open question here about how AI-assisted tools can speed up knowledge capture and course iteration and room for the right person to help shape that answer.
