About the Role

Description

A Site Safety and Health officer has the important role of protecting both the workers and workplace and ensuring the organization is compliant with government requirements. The objective of the Site Safety & Health Officer is to ensure the efficient profitable management of the SMART Safety Group customer’s Safety Program.

The primary functions of a health and safety officer are to develop, monitor and implement the organization's health and safety policy; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the workers but also of the workplace, environment and general public. This role is administrative consulting role to our customers. This position does not; and is not to perform any duties to the jobsites other than assigned to walk the site, monitor, audit, consult and train jobsite personnel on safety and safety compliance.

This position may rotate between project work groups that operate under different California-approved schedules. Some work groups follow an Alternative Workweek Schedule of four 10-hour days (4/10), while others operate on a five 8-hour day schedule. Placement into a work group determines the schedule. If a change in work group results in a schedule change, the company will provide notice consistent with California labor regulations and company policy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field (preferred)
  • Preferred certifications: CHST, STS, OHST, ASP, or CSP
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience
  • An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training annually over the past 5 years
  • Competent Person training in the following areas:
  • Excavation
  • Fall Protection
  • Scaffolding
  • Confined Space
  • Electrical Installations/Lockout-Tagout (LOTO)

Travel & Per Diem

Most of our projects are located within the San Diego area. Per diem and relocation reimbursement are not provided for local San Diego assignments. Occasionally, projects outside of San Diego may require travel, and per diem may be available for those assignments.
