Job Description
The Flatbed Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of dump trucks to transport recyclable materials. This includes adhering to weight regulations, conducting vehicle inspections, and ensuring compliance with all transportation and safety laws. The role is critical in maintaining the flow of materials between various locations, including out-of-state sites, while supporting the company's operations.
What you're responsible for:
• Safely operate a flatbed truck to transport materials to and from internal and customer locations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and DOT regulations.
• Transporting bales of material to various locations.
• Pick up and deliver small and large boxes at various locations.
• Ensuring that cargo is loaded correctly and unloaded safely in a timely manner to reduce as much standby time as possible, verifying loads for accuracy.
• Safely securing loads to the truck's bed using appropriate securement equipment (e.g., straps, chains, blocks, tarps, etc.) according to DOT regulations.
• Ensuring that all loads are kept within legal weight limits, never to exceed maximums, and always remaining within Federal, State, and DOT regulations.
• Maintain constant communication with dispatch to receive delivery instructions and report any problems, including but not limited to delays, customer requests, unsafe situations, potential safety hazards, and injuries.
• Collaborate with dispatch to drive projects, enhancing productivity and performance without compromising quality and safety.
• Always perform and document pre and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment
• Perform regular preventative maintenance to keep all equipment in good operating condition and ensure safety equipment is available and in good working order.
• Identify and immediately report to dispatch when maintenance needs to be performed, including but not limited to tires, lights, brakes, oil, water levels, service lights, etc.
• Complete and submit accurate records of inspections, driver logs, scale tickets, destinations, and equipment inventory.
• Operate vehicle in accordance with Ecology Recycling Services LLC., Safety Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), DOT (Departments of Transportations) as well as all local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
Qualifications
To join our team:
Education/Experience:
• A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
• Must hold a valid Class A driver's license with a clean driving record.
• CDL truck driving experience is required.
Language Skills:
• Proficiency in both English & Spanish is required.
• Must be able to read and understand instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Must be able to write clear correspondence, memos, and schedules.
Mathematical Skills:
• Strong math skills are required.
Reasoning Ability:
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are required.
• Must be able to think creatively and apply common sense to address and meet customer needs effectively.
Physical Demands:
• Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
• Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods, as needed.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• Regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch
Vision Requirements:
• Regularly uses close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
• Ability to adjust focus.
Environment/Noise:
• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
• Operates from open or enclosed driver seats or cabs on land.
• Exposed to noise, vibration, dust, oil, dirt, and fumes.
• Frequently works outdoors in varying temperatures, including hot and cold conditions.
• May occasionally work in wet areas.
Certificates/Licenses (Preferred Qualifications):
• Class A license with no restrictions is required.
• DOT Medical Certification is required.

• Experience as a Class A driver.
• Willingness to work various shifts and travel up to 50% of the time.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
