Training and Development Specialist

Description
The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for the assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development initiatives that support organizational effectiveness, employee performance, leadership capability, and business objectives. This position partners with Compliance, Human Resources, leadership teams, and subject matter experts to identify organizational learning needs and deliver innovative training solutions that foster employee growth, engagement, compliance, and operational excellence.
The Training and Development Specialist serves as a strategic learning partner by leveraging adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and data-driven practices to create impactful learning experiences that support workforce development and organizational success.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Partner with Human Resources, Compliance, leadership, and subject matter experts to identify organizational, departmental, and role-specific learning needs.
· Conduct training needs assessments, skill gap analyses, and competency reviews to support employee development, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
· Design, develop, revise, and deliver training programs, learning materials, job aids, presentations, and other resources using adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
· Facilitate engaging training sessions for new and existing employees in individual, group, in-person, virtual, and blended learning formats.
· Coordinate and support required onboarding, annual, state-mandated, contractual, accreditation-related, and organizational training requirements.
· Administer training through Relias or other learning management systems, including assigning courses, tracking completion, maintaining records, and generating reports.
· Monitor training compliance and follow up with employees, supervisors, and leadership regarding incomplete, overdue, or upcoming training requirements.
· Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to support training on behavioral health topics, de-escalation, cultural competency, ASAM, motivational interviewing, CBT, and other approved practices as applicable.
· Evaluate training effectiveness using attendance data, participant feedback, assessments, performance indicators, and other relevant metrics.
· Maintain and update training content to ensure alignment with current policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, contractual obligations, and organizational priorities.
· Identify, evaluate, and coordinate external training resources, vendors, materials, and courses when appropriate.
· Support leadership development, employee engagement, coaching, and workforce development initiatives that promote organizational effectiveness and employee growth.
· Maintain accurate and confidential training documentation, records, reports, and files in accordance with organizational standards and compliance requirements.
· Assist with audits, surveys, compliance reviews, and reporting activities related to employee training and competency requirements.
· Travel to assigned Axiom Care locations, meetings, and training events as needed.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methods, and training delivery best practices.
· Ability to design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate training programs for employees at multiple levels of the organization.
· Strong presentation, facilitation, coaching, and classroom management skills in both in-person and virtual environments.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and professionally.
· Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Ability to conduct training needs assessments, analyze skill gaps, and recommend practical learning solutions.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
· Experience using learning management systems or similar platforms to assign, track, document, and report training completion.
· Ability to maintain accurate records, protect confidential information, and follow organizational policies and compliance requirements.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, employees, subject matter experts, and external training partners.
· Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of clients, employees, and diverse work groups.
· Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and contribute as a collaborative team member.
Shift: Full-Time: Days (Monday - Friday)
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in training and development, Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Behavioral Health, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
· Minimum of three years of experience developing, coordinating, or delivering employee training programs required.
· Experience in behavioral health, healthcare, human services, or a regulated environment preferred.
· Experience using Relias or another learning management system to assign, track, document, and report training completion preferred.
· Experience developing training materials, job aids, presentations, e-learning content, or competency-based learning tools preferred.
· Knowledge of applicable local, state, federal, contractual, and accreditation-related training requirements preferred.
· Knowledge of clinical and behavioral health training topics such as de-escalation, cultural competency, ASAM, motivational interviewing, CBT, or related practices preferred.
· Certification in CPI or another approved de-escalation program preferred.
· Certification in Mental Health First Aid preferred.
· Certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
· Ability to travel to assigned Axiom Care sites, meetings, and training events as needed.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Ability to stand, walk, and present training for extended periods in classroom, meeting, or virtual settings.
· Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment.
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual meeting platforms.
· Ability to occasionally lift, carry, move, or set up training materials, supplies, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to travel to assigned Axiom Care locations, meetings, and training events as needed.
· Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
