About the Role

Job Title: Dental Assistant

Salary: $23-$28 per hour

Location: Tustin, CA

Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Regional Manager and Supervisor, the Dental Assistant is responsible for supporting dental care delivery by preparing the treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and supplies; ordering and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies; and performing procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act and Infection Control protocols. The Dental Assistant also provides support across FTOC facilities as needed to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care.


Core Duties and responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  1. Prepare the treatment room for the patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols
  2. Prepare the patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping
  3. Provide information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests
  4. Provide instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to the treatment area; positioning instruments for the dentist’s access; suctioning; passing instruments
  5. Provide materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth
  6. Provide diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts
  7. Helps the dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory
  8. Educate patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
  9. Document dental care services by charting in patient records
  10. Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  11. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  12. Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
  13. Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  14. Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  15. Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  16. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  17. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and instruments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on patient-centered care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Completion of a Dental Assistant Course at an accredited college or university preferred.
  • (1) year of experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Current Dental Assistant certification (RDA) in the State of California preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid CPR certification required.
  • X-ray certification required.
  • Bilingual Spanish required.


Work Schedule:

  • FTOC is an in-person organization first, and foremost. Employees are expected to be on-site for their scheduled shifts.
  • Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., however, employee schedules vary, depending on organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs. As such, FTOC may need to modify work schedules to meet such needs.
  • Saturday availability is a requirement for this position.
  • Holidays and weekends may be required depending on an employee’s department due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs as FTOC continues to grow and expand work days and hours.
  • Overtime may also occur due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs.
