About the Role

Description

Primary Purpose:

A Mason is a vital part of our design-build team, responsible for performing tasks involving both physical labor and skilled craftsmanship in outdoor projects. This role extends beyond traditional landscaping duties to include the installation of hardscape and masonry elements. The individual in this position will operate a variety of hand and power tools, prepare sites, install hardscape features, trim natural environments, dig trenches, and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the worksite. A mason will work with materials such as bricks, stones, and concrete. This position is full-time, directing reporting at 7:00 a.m.(start time can vary based on region) to the identified jobsite office daily (Mon-Fri). This position requires Saturday work hours during peak season.


Essential Duties:

  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in landscaping and hardscaping projects, ensuring high-quality execution and completion.
  • Install various hardscape elements including patios, walkways, retaining walls, and other stone or brick structures, following design specifications and industry standards.
  • Operate a range of equipment and tools specific to hardscape and masonry work, such as masonry saws, tampers, levels, and drills, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean job site by picking up all tools and equipment, securing the site each day to eliminate potential hazards, and ensuring all materials are properly stored.
  • Load and unload trucks, handling materials related to both landscaping and hardscaping projects, with attention to safe lifting and carrying techniques.
  • Carry out opening and closing duties for the worksite, including setting up safety signage and barriers, and securing materials and tools at the end of the day.
  • Perform light maintenance of hardscaping equipment, ensuring tools are in good working order and reporting any issues to the Foreman.
  • Comply with safety regulations, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and following safe work practices specific to landscaping and hardscaping tasks.
  • Assist in reading and interpreting project plans, layouts, and other work-related documents to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.
  • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, addressing potential hazards and bringing concerns to the attention of the Foreman, Safety Director, or HR Manager.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy/highway construction work
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
