As Senior Lead, Control Management you will be a key member of the Operational Risk team within Group Risk, working closely with stakeholders across the Fund to provide independent oversight, advice and constructive challenge in relation to controls management practices.

You will drive the uplift and ongoing maturity of the Fund’s controls management framework, support consistent implementation of the Controls Standard and promote effective, sustainable controls management practices across the Fund.

 

Your New Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Advisory, this role is responsible for leading controls governance, processes, reporting, monitoring and data quality uplift to strengthen the overall control environment.

Controls are a fundamental component of the Fund’s risk management framework. Effective governance, oversight and management of controls are critical to reducing risk exposures, strengthening organisational resilience and supporting strong risk outcomes across the Fund.

Key duties include but are not limited to;

  • Lead the embedment of the Controls Standard across the Fund, including maintaining the roadmap, defining key deliverables across the Three Lines of Accountability and driving sustainable adoption.

  • Drive the Fund’s controls management capability uplift program, including the development and delivery of training and guidance materials.

  • Establish and execute a risk-based Line 2 controls oversight program, providing independent review and challenge on the effectiveness and maturity of controls management practices.

  • Deliver reporting, thematic insights and recommendations to senior management and governance committees on the effectiveness of the Fund’s control environment, key trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Lead the strategic uplift and continuous enhancement of the Controls Module within the Governance, Risk and Compliance system, including defining business requirements, influencing prioritisation, overseeing testing and driving improvements.

  • Provide enterprise-wide subject matter leadership on controls management practices, partnering with Line 2 Risk Advisors to promote consistency of approach across Line 1 and Line 2.

  • Lead the ongoing evolution of the Fund’s controls management framework, identifying opportunities to strengthen controls design, operational effectiveness, governance, reporting and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and support for regulatory engagements, audits, reviews and responses relating to controls management.

 

 

What You’ll Need

  • Hold an accreditation in Risk Management from a recognised body like Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA) or Governance Institute of Australia (GIA), or be willing to obtain one after joining AustralianSuper.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and translate external regulatory requirements to shape business outcomes.

  • 10+ years’ experience in 1st and/or 2nd line risk management, with a proven track record of success in these positions.

  • Regulated industry experience, ideally in financial services.

  • Experience working in or leading reporting, financial and risk/governance functions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and understand how parts interact with the whole.

  • Developed written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to create buy-in and communicate strategy and concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
