Why does this job exist and why is it critical?
Principal Accountabilities;
Lead, mentor, and develop the legal team supporting the business units, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with company values.
Develop and execute legal strategies aligned with business goals, offering proactive advice to leadership.
Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, including telecommunications, competition, data protection and consumer law.
Structure, negotiate, draft, review, and manage a wide range of complex and bespoke commercial contracts to protect the company’s interest and facilitate business objectives, including
supply chain and distribution agreements (supply, distribution and reseller arrangements, 3PL/4PL logistics, warehousing and fulfilment);
IP and technology contracts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and cloud services, software licensing, outsourcing and managed services, data processing, cybersecurity services, AI and digital transformation);
network infrastructure and equipment procurement (RAN equipment, fibre and transmission, tower and site infrastructure, spectrum and licensing);
consortium and partnership arrangements (JVs, co-development, revenue-sharing models); and
infrastructure and facilities contracts (data centre construction and colocation, tower development, facilities management, land lease and site access).
Provide legal support for strategic initiatives and new business ventures.
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across the business units and operations.
Manage litigation and disputes, including formulating litigation strategy with external counsel to achieve favourable outcomes.
Oversee regulatory engagements and representing company’s interests in industry consultations and policy development.
Handle responses to security incidents and audits from Government and customers.
Ensure the company stays updated on relevant legal and regulatory changes impacting the business.
Implement best practices to facilitate contract closure.
Certifications
Called to the Malaysian Bar (or equivalent recognized jurisdiction).
Other Key Information
Formal Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Language: English and Bahasa Malaysia (Fluent in both written and spoken).
Relevant Working Experience: Minimum 15 years PQE, with substantial experience in a leadership role, preferably within the telecommunications, technology, or a related industry.
