Join Our Team

The Boys & Girls Club of Clifton is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and highly motivated Maintenance & Facilities Director to lead all aspects of facility maintenance, operations, safety, and capital improvements at our main Clubhouse in Clifton, New Jersey.

This leadership position is responsible for ensuring our facilities remain safe, attractive, efficient, and fully operational for the youth, families, staff, and community we serve. The ideal candidate is an experienced facilities professional who combines strong leadership and organizational skills with the technical ability and willingness to perform hands-on maintenance work when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Operations

  • Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and appearance of the Club’s facilities and grounds.  
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program 
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and identify repair and improvement needs. 
  • Manage maintenance requests and ensure timely completion. 
  • Maintain work order and preventive maintenance systems. 
  • Develop annual maintenance plans and recommend facility improvements. 
  • Oversee maintenance and inspection of our bus fleet. 


Building Systems

Oversee the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of:

  • HVAC systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Fire alarm and life safety systems
  • Security and access control systems
  • Emergency generators
  • Lighting systems
  • Elevators
  • Roofing and building envelope systems
  • Mechanical equipment
  • Building automation systems


Hands-On Maintenance

Perform or supervise general building maintenance, including:

  • Plumbing repairs
  • Minor electrical repairs
  • Carpentry and door hardware repairs
  • Drywall patching and painting
  • Ceiling and flooring repairs
  • Installation of shelving, equipment, and furnishings
  • Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Program and event room setup and breakdown


Leadership & Staff Development

  • Recruit, supervise, train, and mentor maintenance personnel.
  • Establish work schedules and priorities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and outstanding customer service.
  • Support ongoing staff development and training.


Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Solicit competitive bids and negotiate service agreements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and maintenance contracts.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors to ensure quality work and timely completion.
  • Review and approve invoices upon satisfactory completion of work.


Capital Projects

  • Assist with planning and implementing renovation and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Provide recommendations for long-term facility improvements.


Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain inspection records and required certifications.
  • Participate on the organization's Safety Committee.
  • Develop emergency response procedures related to facility operations.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, including after-hours situations when necessary.


Budget & Inventory Management

  • Develop and manage the department's operating budget.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain inventories of maintenance supplies, tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Manage purchasing and vendor relationships.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and perform physical maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.


Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible facilities management experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.


Desired Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in nonprofit organizations, schools, community centers, healthcare, or institutional facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial building maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building systems.
  • Ability to safely diagnose and perform minor repairs across multiple trades.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, and life safety standards.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and service agreements.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Customer-focused approach with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.


Compensation & Benefits


$65,000–$75,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
