About the Role

Description

The Mobile Facilities Technician supports TCCC's mobile shower and laundry services by setting up and taking down the shower and laundry trailers, handling laundry, distributing towels, hygiene items, food, and clothing, and providing a welcoming, respectful environment for all clients. This role engages directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, offering basic needs support while fostering trust through compassionate, nonjudgmental interaction. The job also includes helping maintain a safe and clean service area, responding to client questions and concerns, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs to the mobile shower and/or laundry trailer and equipment, and serving as a positive point of connection to additional TCCC services. This position requires reliability, empathy, strong interpersonal communication, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to preserving dignity for those facing housing instability.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down the mobile shower and laundry trailers, including canopies, tables, hoses, generators, water connections, and equipment.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections of the shower trailer, generator, plumbing, electrical systems, and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs to the shower and laundry trailers and related equipment, including replacing fixtures, tightening fittings, troubleshooting minor plumbing or electrical issues, changing light bulbs, replacing hoses, unclogging drains, repairing minor leaks, and completing other routine upkeep.
  • Identify maintenance issues beyond the scope of basic repairs and promptly report or coordinate repairs with qualified service providers.
  • Greet clients with respect and compassion; create a welcoming, safe environment.
  • Distribute towels, hygiene kits, food, water, and clothing to clients as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the area before, during, and after operations.
  • Monitor and manage shower and laundry usage, ensuring fair access and smooth flow of clients.
  • Track supplies and maintenance materials and inform the supervisor when inventory is low.
  • Assist with client questions and provide referrals to additional TCCC services when appropriate.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
  • Report any incidents, equipment failures, safety concerns, or client needs to the Director of Programs.
  • Collaborate with other team members and volunteers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, mental illness, or substance use disorders is a plus.
  • Experience with basic facility maintenance, handyman work, construction, plumbing, electrical, automotive, or equipment repair is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs, including equipment and supplies.
  • Reliable transportation to various service locations throughout Tracy and surrounding communities.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.

  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of trauma-informed care principles.

Work Conditions:

?      The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.

?      The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

?      Interaction with clients experiencing housing instability and other challenges is frequent.

 

Physical Requirements

 

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently,and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time

 

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another

 

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly

 

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
