About the Role

Role Purpose

The Transport Manager leads the company's car carrier operation with a clear focus on three areas: order management, load optimisation and driver management. The role is accountable for converting customer orders into efficiently planned, fully utilised loads that are delivered on time by a well-managed and compliant driver team. As the named person of responsibility on the operator's authorisation, the Transport Manager owns the standards, capacity, cost and performance across these three areas and reports on them to the directors.

Key Responsibilities

Order Management

  • Own the order-to-delivery process for vehicle movements, ensuring orders are accepted, planned and fulfilled to agreed service levels.

  • Set booking, scheduling and prioritisation policy, and manage fleet capacity against order demand and peaks.

  • Oversee order allocation across the fleet and depots and resolve escalated scheduling conflicts and customer priorities.

  • Monitor order-fulfilment KPIs (on-time delivery, order accuracy, turnaround time) and report performance to the directors.

Load Optimisation

  • Set loading standards and load-planning strategy to maximise carrier utilisation across all carrier types (single, multi-car, enclosed and specialist transporters).

  • Own route and load-optimisation policy, balancing fill rate, cost per unit moved and delivery windows, and drive continuous improvement in utilisation and empty running.

  • Review and approve load plans for complex or multi-drop movements.

  • Ensure load-securing standards protect the vehicles carried and keep loads within axle-weight and overloading limits.

Driver Management

  • Lead, recruit, develop, appraise and discipline the driver team, and own driver rosters, capacity planning and welfare.

  • Ensure every driver holds a valid Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and vocational licence class, and complies with JPJ working-hours and mandatory rest-break rules.

  • Own driver performance standards, training (including defensive driving and load-securing competency) and the safety culture.

  • Oversee GPS/telematics monitoring of drivers and act on exceptions such as speeding, missed breaks or route deviation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Typically 5+ years in road transport / fleet management with supervisory or managerial responsibility, ideally in vehicle logistics, car carrying or heavy commercial haulage.

  • Strong track record in order / dispatch management, load planning and driver management.

  • Sound knowledge of GDL, driver working-hours and JPJ / APAD requirements as they affect drivers and operations.

  • Fit and proper person able to be named as Transport Manager on the operator's authorisation.

Desirable

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Transport, Supply Chain or a related field.

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Freight, or equivalent.

  • Experience with transport-management (TMS), route-optimisation and telematics systems.

  • Valid GDL / relevant vocational licence.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Strong leadership presence and the authority to set and enforce standards.

  • A planning and optimisation mindset with sound commercial and cost judgement.

  • Sound decision-making under operational and time pressure.

  • Effective people-management and driver-engagement skills.

  • Effective communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

  • Availability to respond to escalations and emergencies outside normal hours.
