POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aspire Leader position is an essential position that furthers the mission and goals of the university through assisting the Student Life staff in assisting students’ transition to university life, get acquainted with a multitude of staff and peers, adjust to the college community of learning, as well as add to the overall positive experience of Saint Mary students as a whole.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively with members of the Residence Life and Student Engagements
- Attend and participate in mandatory monthly Aspire Leader meetings.
- Utilize computer software to record contacts made with students.
- Work with students to build academic and social skills and abilities to assist them in succeeding at USM.
- Become familiar with specific policies and procedures that affect new students during their first year experience.
- Serve as a resource and answer questions students may have about campus life, programs, services, co-curricular activities, etc.
- Be available to students during office hours in the Keleher Learning Commons.
- Attend and facilitate activities during the semester as necessary such as Skill shops, themed events, lectures, small groups, etc.
- Become executive orientation leaders as assigned
- Help in all aspects of orientation both fall and mid-year in conjunction with Blue Crew
- Works on PowerPoints, flyers, and the marketing of events, as assigned
- Poster/flyer - hanging/take-down
- Table toppers as assigned
- Run social media pages accordingly
- Event set-up and clean up
- Run and coordinate lunch room event tables
- Office work in relationship to events
- All tasks related to the changing landscape of events in the area of student engagement and activities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highly responsible, motivated and interested in helping fellow students succeed and enjoy their time at Saint Mary in all aspects.
- Interested in mentoring and coaching students during their time at the University of Saint Mary.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with a team to complete tasks and reach established goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint at a high quality level
- Ability to facilitate group interactions.
- Demonstrated involvement on campus or in the community (student organizations, athletics, activities programming, volunteer positions, etc.)
- Completed a minimum of one year (2 semesters) as a student at University of Saint Mary
- Be in good academic standing.
- Be enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours).
- Ability to adapt and be flexible with changing situations.
