Federal Work Study - Biology/Natural Sciences

The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is intended to provide a meaningful job experience, with direct supervision, that complements and reinforces the recipient’s educational program and/or career goals.  Outcomes from the Federal Work Study program include:

• Working within a team environment

POSITION: Federal Work Study – Biology and Natural Sciences

DEPARTMENT:  Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Aid the lab coordinator in preparing and setting up laboratory exercises
• Maintain a clean and organized lab space 
• Prepare solutions and culture media 
• Assist with maintenances and care of fish and plants in the aquaponic garden 
• Assist with construction and preparation of grow beds or other aquaponic garden structures 
• Perform minor clerical duties 
• Assist with creating hallway displays and other related projects 
• Complete the Federal Work Study orientation

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study and enrolled full time at the University of Saint Mary
• Interest in the sciences 
• The ability to follow directions and protocols
• The ability to work independently and take initiative 
• A team player with strong communication skills 
• Accuracy and attention to detail 
• Computer skills or a willingness to learn 
• Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
