RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To provide tutoring services to a child or children (preschool through sixth grade) which can include assisting the children with homework related to reading or language arts
- Coordinate or participate in one family literacy project at an elementary school
- Submit a one page report documenting the reading and family literacy activities performed during the school year
REQUIREMENTS:
- The Federal Department of Education that oversees the Federal Work Study Program strongly recommends that the Reading Tutor be well trained. To satisfy this recommendation, USM will require the candidate to have either a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education or related field to be a student teacher
- The candidate must be currently employed at a professional development placement public school with USM
- Tutoring and family literacy activities should take place at the students P-6 school or the university before or after school hours
- Successfully pass a background check
- Complete Virtus training
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Must have the ability to politely interact with a variety of people
- Enjoys working with children and engages with them appropriately
- Responsible for prompt and consistent work
