 POSITION:  Federal Work Study - Maintenance Technician I

 DEPARTMENT:  Plant Operations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs routine maintenance and general labor duties in support of facilities operations. Assists with repair, construction, equipment operation, and grounds maintenance activities. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for quality, adherence to instructions, and acceptable standards of workmanship.

  • Moves, assembles, and delivers furniture; moves, hauls, transports, and installs heavy equipment, materials, and various other items which may include mail and parcel post.
  • May assist skilled and semi-skilled personnel in various areas of endeavor (construction, mechanical trades, technical trades, etc.) as directed; set up ladders and scaffolding; run errands; hold and steady materials on which work is being performs; perform routine cleanup at work site or in shop area.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment as necessary to accomplish work assigned. Cleans, oils, and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment.
  • May assist in general grounds work: mowing, pruning, fertilizing, transplanting, watering, snow removal.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study and enrolled full-time at the University of Saint Mary
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at varying heights.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors and be exposed to varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and university vehicles necessary to perform assigned duties.
