FLSA: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Job Summary:
 The responsibility of the Snow Removal Team (SRT) is to maintain all WSI exterior areas in a neat, snow-free, and safe environment for our customers and employees. The Department office is in the Building Maintenance Shop (Woodshop) located in the Maple parking lot.

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to: Roads Supervisor & Public Works Superintendent
  • Employees Supervised: None

Job Specifications:

  • Two years of high school or GED equivalent
  • Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and be eligible for WSI’s vehicle insurance policy to transport equipment and supplies around the Big Mountain village area
  • Flexibility in schedule changes on short notice is required
  • Job may require working weekends, holidays, and overtime during peak demand times
  • Responsible for providing foul weather gear
  • Must adhere to and promote safety policies and procedures relating to the operation of snow removal equipment and daily maintenance duties
  • Must have personal, reliable transportation as the position starts before public transportation access

Specific Duties:

  • Maintain all walkways, stairs, and fire escapes, keeping them shoveled and free of ice and snow as needed
  • Sweep all stairs daily (when not snowing)
  • Pick up trash around the base area daily
  • Empty all outside trash receptacles daily
  • Shovel roofs as conditions dictate
  • Knock down icicles on all buildings as needed
  • Set out ski racks daily
  • Work in coordination with Heavy Equipment Operators to keep all parking lots and ramps salted as needed
  • Perform daily checks and maintenance of all snow removal equipment, including gators, snow blowers, etc.

Work Environment:

  • Extensive physical activity required by handling objects up to 30 pounds frequently, 50 pounds routinely, and 80 pounds occasionally
  • Bending, sitting, and standing will be required for durations of several hours at a time
  • Ability to perform tasks in small spaces and awkward body postures regularly
  • Drive company vehicles in the performance of daily duties
  • Primarily outdoor work conducted in varying weather conditions, some being extreme in nature, up to 8 hours daily
  • Non-smoking environment

Safety & Wellness:

  • Operate fire suppression equipment as emergency situations require
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Follow guidelines and procedures for vehicle maintenance and repair with WSI’s Vehicle Maintenance Department
  • Be aware of proper Hazcom Communication and exercise communication when appropriate
  • Report any unsafe working conditions or broken equipment to the supervisor or the safety concern notebook located in the woodshop
  • Familiar with the MSDS program and sheets, adhering to all guidelines
  • Maintain an orderly work area

All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve periodic inspections of work and public areas, with follow-up notifications to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity.
