About the Role

Position:    Managing Director, Foundation Partnerships

Location:    NYC National Headquarters

FLSA Status:    Exempt


Reporting to the Vice President, the Managing Director for Multi-Sector Partnerships within the Foundation Partnerships team will be responsible for developing, leading and implementing strategy with U.S.-based private foundations that support multiple program areas, including the team’s largest multi-sectoral partner, to support UNICEF’s program and advocacy goals. In addition to leading a team responsible for strategy, grants management and internal and external relationship cultivation, the Managing Director will develop and implement partnership strategy to sustain core investments and secure new ones, oversee global partnership coordination and collaboration, and identify and develop new high-value multi-sector prospects.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):


Partnership Management and Development (70%)

    Oversee, develop and implement current multi-sector partnership strategies (including for team’s largest partnership) in service of managing a healthy active grant portfolio of over $500M and cultivating new funding opportunities to advance outcomes in shared priorities

    Identify, develop and grow relationships (through direct relationship management, collaboration with UNICEF Global and oversight of team members’ portfolios) with new multi-sector foundation partners, bringing in new funding opportunities and diversifying partnership portfolio 

    Manage a team responsible for implementation of relationship management, cultivation of opportunities, and grants management

    Oversee proposal development and contracting process for grant funding, including negotiating partnership terms 

    Lead collaboration with UNICEF Global colleagues to ensure strong partnership coordination, leadership and regional engagement, and aligned strategy implementation 

    Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders 

    Monitor active grant portfolio and ensure strong, consistent grant implementation, communication, and reporting

    Develop and lead multi-sector partner collaboration and coordination mechanisms across UNICEF and UUSA


Strategy and Leadership (30%)

    Maintain and analyze knowledge, data and trends across current and prospective multi-sector foundation partners and leverage to guide strategy 

    Foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in service of building new partnerships and strengthening current ones; participate in sector-relevant convenings and conferences 

    Lead internal UUSA collaboration across divisions to leverage tools, insights and expertise 

    Support the Vice President on strategic planning

    Develop and manage direct reports in line with position outcomes, leveraging coaching to support growth and deliverables 

    Foster and uphold team culture and values of partnership and collaboration, impact, innovation

    Other tasks as assigned 


Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years experience in a partnership management or strategic partnerships role; a mix of foundation and non-profit experience preferred

    Experience leading and managing high performing development team

    Demonstrated relationship-building skills, ability to generate revenue, and partnership management experience

    Proven ability to mobilize and grow private sector support; ability to identify and pursue new opportunities and build partnership strategies 

    Ability to build relationships with individuals with unique personalities and styles and at different levels of seniority, and to mobilize cross-organizationally, align and motivate individuals and maintain effective working relationships

    Ability to see and communicate the big picture, while simultaneously focusing on the details to enforce structure, accountability, and tracking

    Ability to manage multiple investments with several large, complex foundations at one time

    Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings

    Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize multiple deadlines

    Proven problem solving and negotiation skills; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information

    Proven written and oral communication skills; ability to successfully communicate in order to achieve individual and organizational goals

    Self-motivated; ability to lead projects independently from concept to completion

    Ability to travel to domestic and international locations

    Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word
