For nearly twenty eight years, the National Domestic Violence Hotline has answered the call – over seven million calls, chats, and texts to date – for those affected by relationship abuse. As the only 24/7/365 national service provider offering services via call, chat, and text, we work to shine a light on domestic violence by supporting and advocating for survivors, providing hope in times of crisis, and promoting healthy relationships for all. The Hotline provides confidential, one-on-one support to each caller/chatter/texter, offering crisis intervention, options for next steps, and direct connection to sources for immediate safety. Our comprehensive database holds more than 5,000 agencies and resources in communities all across the country. Bilingual advocates are on hand to speak with callers, and our Language Line offers translations in over 200 languages. The Hotline is also an excellent source of help for concerned friends, family, co-workers and others seeking information and guidance on how to help someone they know. We work to educate communities all over through events, campaigns, and dynamic partnerships. Today, The Hotline is continuing to grow and explore new avenues of service. love is respect, a project of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Break the Cycle, is a peer-to-peer resource for questions about dating and healthy relationships. Teens and young adults can reach us 24/7 by phone (1-866-331-9474), online chat at loveisrespect.org, or by texting "loveis" to 22522. Our highly trained advocates are also available to parents, teachers, organizations and others concerned about dating violence and abuse.
About the Role

Description

  

The Communications Manager, Website and Digital Communications is an integral member of the communications team, focused on developing survivor-centered brand strategies and communications for the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) and its youth-focused program the National Teen Dating Violence Helpline and its information and engagement project, love is respect. The position works closely with the communications team and our PR firm of record to build thoughtful, data-informed comprehensive, survivor-centered content that engages the diverse audiences of our organizations. 


This is a full-time, hybrid role with a requirement to work in the office four days per week.


Compensation: This role offers an annual salary range of $90,000–$100,000, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, and alignment with our salary structure.


Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Content creation and digital strategy: Research, plan, create, and evaluate content across all platforms (website, blogs, infographics, social media). Develop strategies to drive website traffic and connect survivors to advocates, services, and resources in partnership with communications team. 
  • Development Communications: Collaborate with the development team on a variety of donor communications and projects including work on the annual National Conference on Domestic Violence. 
  • Digital collaboration: Partner with the social media manager on content strategies and launching an influencer program. Research and implement new tools to enhance our digital presence and reach key audiences.
  • Media relations: Work on as needed, day-to-day media relations (proactive and reactive), triage media inquiries with our external PR firm, develop press materials, and conduct regular analysis of earned media and PR firm performance. 
  • Funder compliance: Support communications, marketing, and awareness campaigns to meet all funder (federal and private) goals and performance targets within funding periods. 
  • Data collaboration: Work with the data team to ensure external reports are accurate, survivor-centered, and appropriately contextualized. 
  • Administrative support: Collaborate with the communication’s team on administrative tasks and manage inquiries from general email inbox and phone lines. 

Requirements

Education & Experience Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or a related field
  • +5 years of experience in strategic communications, content development, social media management, and/or public relations. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities  

  • Strong writing ability and editing skills, and a passion for storytelling. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google applications. 
  • Experience with the Meltwater media platform. 
  • Serious attention to detail and strong time and project management skills. 
  • Highly organized and able to work independently to complete projects on deadline. 
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse group of fellow team members, executives, managers, external groups and subject matter experts. 
  • Ability to carry out and articulate the mission, vision, programs and purposes of the organization. 
  • Ability to be flexible, if needed, to work outside of normal business hours. Demonstrated success with supervising and mentoring entry-level communications professionals. 
  • Candidates with experience working in the nonprofit, domestic violence or sexual assault field preferred.

Other Requirements/Working Conditions

  • This role is hybrid position based in Austin, Texas.
  • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week in the office. Specific days are to be determined by the department's needs.
  • Must maintain a stable internet connection with at least 10 MBPS download and 2 MBPS upload speeds.
  • Must have a home workspace that is confidential, secure and free from distraction.
  • Must maintain standards of confidentiality related to agency information.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing using keyboard, phone, and computer
