Role and Responsibilities
Intensive supervision of adult felony probationers, who are assigned to Community Corrections as part of sentencing from the Court and courtesy supervision of probationers from outside jurisdictions within the State of Kansas. Supervision is pursuant to Kansas statute, the Kansas Department of Corrections’ supervision standards, the local policy and procedure of this agency and direct Court orders. This position may have a caseload in Coffeyville, Independence, and Sedan areas, officers will be assigned to an office located in Coffeyville or Independence.
Caseload Supervision and Case Management
· Participate in and successfully complete initial and recertification training for all risk/needs assessments
· Complete training for agency adopted best practices in community supervision
· Provide supervision to assigned caseload pursuant to Court Orders, Kansas Department of Corrections standards and agency policy and procedures
· Complete initial and ongoing risk/need assessments and write/update case plans as needed
· Utilize communication techniques that align with case plans and promote behavior change
· Make referrals to programs for cognitive programming, job development, education, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, and other necessary services as determined by the case plan and order of the Court
· Maintain all information in the Kansas Department of Corrections case management data base system
Probationer Compliance and Monitoring
· Evaluate and monitor probationer compliance, performance and progress
· Review case files to hold probationers accountable and address violations of probation and acknowledge success and progress made
· Manage extensions of supervision term, transfer of supervision to another agency and termination of supervision
· Prepare legal documents for the Court outlining violations of supervision and/or compliance with probation orders
· Attend revocation hearing, make recommendations to the court and provide testimony to the Court as needed
· Conduct drug and alcohol monitoring in compliance with Court Orders, Kansas Department of Corrections and agency standards
· Comply with all Kansas Statutes, Kansas Department of Corrections and agency standards
Fieldwork and Community Engagement
· Conduct home, workplace and community visits with probationer to:
· Ensure compliance by monitoring adherence to supervision conditions and to identify potential violations
· Assess risk and needs by evaluating environmental factors, behavior and support systems to address risk effectively
· Enhance public safety to take proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure community well-being
· Build trust and rapport to foster strong, professional relationships with probationers to encourage transparency and accountability
· Provide support to connect probationers with resources, services and interventions related to their risk and needs
· Verify information to confirm the accuracy of self-reported data and other relevant details
· Respond promptly to address emerging issues or concerns
· Collaborate effectively by maintaining regular communication with families, treatment providers, and other stakeholders in the probationers lives
· Partner with law enforcement to work alongside agencies to enhance supervision outcomes and address safety concerns
Process Improvement and Data Management
· Make recommendations for process improvements and to test new technologies
· Collect and input data, case notes, and file information into designated computer systems
· Create, update, maintain and monitor probationer files
· Prepare reports and provide information to stakeholders as required
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Graduation with a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in the social sciences, psychology, counseling, criminology, or social work
Preferred Skills
One year of case management experience. Experience may be substituted for degree.
